As a reminder : The Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War (1949) outlines specific rules for the humane treatment of prisoners of war (POWs). These rules, primarily found in the Third Geneva Convention, mandate that POWs be treated with respect for their person and honor, and protected from violence, intimidation, and public curiosity. They also detail requirements for adequate food, shelter, medical care, and communication with the outside world. Any violation of the captive 's rights amounts to a war crime. |
