Umuada Criticised For 'collecting Tea And Bread During The Burial Of Young Lady' by ExAngel007(op): 7:25pm On Jul 07, 2025
A Nigerian woman, Nenye Uzowulu, has criticised the Umuada women's group for allegedly consuming bread and tea while a 26-year-old woman was being buried.

The funeral service for Nweke Chidera Jennifer took place on July 5, 2025.

“A girl of 26yrs old d!ed prematurely. Not even married.
Even thou…Umu Ada went there and be drinking tea. Kai!
No single empathy,” she wrote.

Hmmmm. Could this still be blame on hunger in the land? But come to think of it, the family of the deceased offered? Should they've rejected it?

That tradition is very repulsive...
In the SW, usually if you died below 50years, it's oku ofo and won't be celebrated

Well however the hunger is real, so no too much blame.

The logical meaning of "life is for the living"

Umuada and umunna...pray not to enter their wahala...very mean village uncles and aunties

I experienced something like this n Benue...agatu to be precise....after the deceased has been buried ...they throw a kind of party for days...I can't remember the number of days again

Every night...the community will gather there and beat drums and dance till dawn....

it doesn't work that way

These are things you must provide for them to honour whatever you are doing.... depending on the ceremony...

The mother of the deceased has probably recievied the same item at other peoples funeral too...

NB:the umuada will give them something in return....most time it is money

People are just conscienceless. They just pretend to be mourn the dead but in the real sense all they care about is food and drinks.

Why blaming them instead of those that brought the bread and tea for them? Or did they brought it from their homes and starts eating it at the funeral?

There is hunger in the land. Only these people are denying that hunger is troubling them. But everything has been exposed since.

I don't even like burial foods.

E dey do me like say I'm eating the person flesh.

But if the deceased family share it without anybody forcing them I don't see anything bad here.

Your criticism on this people shows you don't know what you are doing, knowing fully that in South East , anyone that died irrespective of age, they will do burial ceremony in such they will engage some programs and precise, what is your comments on the family of the deceased that distributed those teas and bread, this is culture at South East.
In south west, Yoruba tribe per say, age from 50 downward won't be celebrate if pass away.

The people that gave them bread are not complaining na.

Why even give them chair to sit? You for advise them to stand till the burial is over. And if one of them slumps and dies, you will come and be doing bla bla bla online again.

It's part of their culture in the South East. Even when a baby dies , they drink Ogogoro and beer to celebrate.

Honestly I don't see what is wrong here. The family invited them and gave that, should they have rejected it. And you forgot they too will gather and give the family something before leaving.

Affliction of hunger caused by Tinubu and APC have eroded humanity and empathy in the Land.
People no longer know what is forbidden again all because of hunger.
May the Dead find Peace 🕯️

I know of a tribe in the north central, when young man or woman dies, they roll out the drums and drink and eat, but when an old man or woman dies, it's another kettle of fish.

.. different strokes for different folks

I don't know the state but this appears to be in igboland. In my place, the women don't have any particular food request although I don't know if bread was requested here in particular or what the family just choose to serve them but it is a general African culture to eat where someone has passed away after crying or during burial period. In Yoruba land, it's akara they are used to sharing that I have seen on a number of occasions. The lady posting it must be one of the Genzees who's either not in tune with the culture or simply looking for attention.

To each his/her own. I find the culture that calls a dead oku ofo because of the age at which s/he died to be more repulsive. No one is guaranteed long life and everyone should be buried for a life well lived whenever they die.
