TikTok building new version of app ahead of expected US sale, The Information reports

July 6 (Reuters) - TikTok is building a new version of its app for users in the United States ahead of a planned sale of the app to a group of investors, The Information reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.

This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday he will start talking to China on Monday or Tuesday about a possible TikTok deal.

He said the United States "pretty much" has a deal on the sale of the TikTok short-video app.

TikTok has developed a plan to launch the new app to U.S. app stores on September 5, the report said.

Last month, Trump extended to September 17 a deadline for China-based ByteDance to divest the U.S. assets of TikTok.

The report added that TikTok users will eventually have to download the new app to be able to continue using the service, although the existing app will work until March of next year, though the timeline could change.

TikTok did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

A deal had been in the works earlier this year to spin off TikTok's U.S. operations into a new U.S.-based firm, majority-owned and operated by U.S. investors. That was put on hold after China indicated it would not approve it following Trump's announcements of steep tariffs on Chinese goods.

Trump said the United States will probably have to get a deal approved by China.

That app will be dead on arrival! Because the app will never gain the publicity and popularity of Tik Tok plus the fact that the US government will still frustrated it. The truth is that the US government is trying to be vindictive having it being known that the US social media Apps is not use in China while China are trying to create an incommunicado challenges to buy time and look out for a best option. Because Tik Tok is the only well known China App use in the world right now having it sold to the US will automatically mean the US now control almost 100 percent of the world social media.

The thing is that the US doesn't have a problem with TikTok in itself. It has a problem with the fact that it is owned by the Chinese.

So, even if they build a new app still owned by the Chinese, the same law will still apply to them to sell it off to US investors

I’ve since deleted my FB and Instagram accounts because those cites hand over users data and information to US and Isreali intelligence agencies. They are not happy that they have not been able to penetrate TIkTok and instagram

My dear, my concern is with the TikTok we all know. The U.S. can go ahead with whatever they want, but why can’t they create a separate application to suit their needs? Why impose their standards on an existing platform just to suit themselves.

I get you. But it’s not about standards, rather it’s about control.
Most people are unaware of the high level politics at play behind all the big beautiful suits white people wear.

TikTok now has a global reach and audience that the US government can’t overlook, because every social media platform is a box of user data collection by the CIA. If you are on Facebook and instagram which are both owned by Americans, the CIA have complete access to your information and data. So for the CIA to be in control of TikTok users data’s and information it must be owned by an American company.

as a sensible and Fair person, would you compare Chinese approach to competition to America's?

How would you blame America that still allows wechat and live out china that doesn't allow YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Gmail in their country?
