The next stage in this foundation work is the filling of the foundation with sand brought in from elsewhere. We are buying laterite filling sand, mixed with lumps of stone for our use here................

More about the filling sand we're using in this site, we chose laterite soil, and in Enugu, there are these types of soil that is usually mixed with lumps of stones, sometimes heavier stones and boulders. From these types of stone, we can get gravel fro building purposes when washed properly.

There will be a change of plans here, due to the conditions of this land and its waterlogged nature, we are not going to continue this sand filling with laterite soil as earlier planned. We are switching to sharp sand.

Well done 👏. Please why can't you advise your client to use turkey ppr pipes for this mechanical conduut plumbing. This pipes is am seeing here will start leaking after some years. I have seen where an entire wall was broken because of leaking pipes. Turkey PPR has been tested and trusted.

Welcome bro, I have a lot of experience with working with pipes, I have used these same quality of pipes to do over 50 buildings and none is leaking right now, except when wrongly fitted, or when damaged by careless use. I have also used PPR pipes and fittings in many previous projects with varyingdegreesof success, so I am no stranger to them.

What we should consider is not what was used, but how it was used. PPR has it's own drawbacks too, like every other material out there in the market. But like I said, project managers work with what works for them.

This foundation work we are doing here is going to be remarkably different from the other types we do. This is because of the type of soil we will be working on, which has a very low bearing capacity, with serious underground water movement.

We are first going to fill this foundation with water, this is a process we call foundation ponding. The objective is to use water to start the compaction process, in stages, starting from the lowest level which Is the bottom of the foundation.

We will fill this level, watch the level with which this foundation soil settles, then fill 5he foundation some more and repeat the process till we are sure there no weak soils inside the foundation.

No, it's pumped water.
The water is pumped into the sand filled portion of the foundation to further loosen up the soil and as the water seeps into the ground,gravity also pulls the sand down thereby compacting it.

You'll see that after a while, the level of the sand drops due to this compaction, you then repeat the process till the whole foundation becomes filled.After this, you can then use the compactor to get a very compact job.

This process is a bit longer but with it, be rest assured that there'll be no pockets created by improperly placed stones in your foundation.

Yes, there is a special tile for cement, and this is one of the different brands in the market. But our tilers sometimes have a mind of their own, since they didn't learn tiling work using this tiles adhesive, using it on site looks like a tall order for them.

We have continued to buy more filling sand and fill this deep foundation. Its difficult finding sand supplies now that the rains are here and roads are bad. But we are pushing ahead still, more updates later today.

Meanwhile, this was the evidence of more soil settlement the following day after we ponded the foundation. We will continue this process as we fill the foundation..................

Now, we start sand filling this foundation with clean sharp sand......................

Very good news. I was about to start ponding the foundation again when the rains started dropping.
