It’s supposed to be about giving gifts, not making demands.

I don’t see why the bride’s family should be sending any kind of list.

It’s the groom’s family that should approach with gifts and an amount that reflects how much they value the bride — not as if she’s being sold.

If I give you money as a gift and you start counting it, would you then say it’s incomplete? We need to investigate where the idea of list originated from sef..

What kind of cheap list is this one? What I was given was 10X of this. At the end of the negotiations, what I actually paid was 5x of this.

Some families are greedy sha, especially when the father of the girl is no more alive. Those evil uncles would connive and give you a list that can make you run away from their "daughter". Meanwhile their own original daugthers are pregnant or nursing children from useless men who have never bought them one bottle of drink.

If you have a father who is a decision maker on marital issues, let this be a reminder to you to caution your father considering all that wickedness.

Indeed, there are some families you marry to and can never allow certain relatives to come close to your street, not to even talk of your house.

The most important thing is that the woman should be worth the trouble at the end of the day. Mine is worth the trouble.

Getting married nowadays is a capital project on its own.

Initially the Igbos, particularly Imo State, were the ones noted with this practice of milking the intending groom dry.

Having more girls in a family became more of an investment from which they hope to reap bountifully from later in life.

Brides are now commodities ready for sale to the highest bidder.

I once accompanied a friend to Imo State for just an introduction.

That event alone was more than the marriage proper in other places.

O boy, come see list!

This "evil" has been keeping bachelors away because of the astronomical "prices" for marrying an Imo State girl.

Recently, this Shylock practice has been spreading to other tribes and not just the Igbos.

One thing that they seem to forget is that there's life after the marriage ceremony, including expected and unexpected bills to be settled by the young couples.

There's need for introspection concerning this commercial practice!
