Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has charged coalition opposition leaders to inform Nigerians of their plans for fuel subsidy and how they intend to govern Nigeria.

Governor Radda, while speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, questioned the opposition leaders on what they plan to do differently from what President Bola Tinubu’s government is currently doing.

“This coalition we are talking about in Nigeria, what is new about it? Who are these people in the coalition? Have they not been in another coalition before? What are they going to come and do differently from what is happening in the country now?

“Those who want to contest for President under the ADC let them come and tell Nigerians are they going to bring subsidy back? And if they are going to bring subsidy back let them tell Nigerian how they are going to run the government and with what resources are they going to run the government,” Radda stated.

The governor urged the opposition leaders not to deceive Nigerians, saying that all of them had formed a coalition because they were out of government.

“Let’s be realistic, let’s tell ourselves the truth. The time to deceive Nigerians is over. Who (among them) was not in the government of the last regime? We know the track records of everyone; we know what they have done when they were in government, and they are now crying and shouting because they are outside the government.

“Let’s be realistic, if you’re coming with something new, every Nigerian is going to embrace it because all of us are here to make Nigeria better. Our problem is we the politicians and we must clean ourselves and be sincere to ourselves,” he said.

The coalition opposition, which is floated on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, includes Peter Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and many former governors and lawmakers.

Oga it’s too early for all these. You people should calm down. It’s obvious this ADC is causing APC sleepless nights.

I can understand Governor Radda’s pain, he knows the ADC tsunami will sweep him away come 2027, just like the APC tsunami swept most Northern PDP governors in 2015.

He should rather direct his question to his party, the APC, and to Tinubu, and ask them to tell Nigerians what they’ve done with the trillions of naira saved from subsidy removal.

Not this vague explanation the government keeps giving that the money has been invested in 'critical infrastructure.' Which critical infrastructure? The notoriously fraudulent Lagos-Calabar coastal highway?

These are bold actions the preset administration has taken for which we are feeling the heat.

One of the wrong moves of Tinubu after removing the subsidy is the way he went about sharing the subsidy money. That is why Nigerians are asking questions about the effect of the subsidy money. Is it not better to have left the subsidy and fight the cabals . As a Nigerian in what way is anyone having the benefit of oil producing nation. Many oil producing countries subsidies one thing or the other for their citizens

How can federal government through a private limited company like NNPCL or as some sections of the media call them NNPC deregulate and regulate a free market as they call it??

ADC is not an opposition party yet until they do their presidential primaries and survived. The people there have different agenda and different manifesto in 2023 so what exactly will be the party's plan to run Nigeria will depend on the first flag bearer if they survived presidential primaries.

Subsidy is gone forever and nobody will dribble around anything. Obi said he'll remove it and he won't backtrack this time.

The deregulation and privatisation PDP bloc led by Atiku has been clear & consistent about liberalising the petroleum downstream sector for greater competition and investments that create jobs and shared prosperity.

This is what they did to telecom sector over two decades ago, which is why we have fintech companies, social media etc side benefits.

They also privatised the petrochemicals division of NNPC to Indorama with fantastic results.

The question you should rather ask first is, "Who will be the party's flag-bearer?"

I watch a few interviews by Mr Osinbaloye of Channels, and just shake my head at the lacklustre questions Nigerian journalists put to politicians.

He rarely asks simple, pin-pointed, and obvious questions that will compel politicians who promise heaven on earth if elected to tell us what they will do exactly. Instead, he goes round in circles before finally asking a muddled and convoluted question that gives the interviewee an opportunity to say a lot without saying anything tangible.

Journalists should ask these politicians simple questions that the man on the street will understand, like, 'Mr so and so, this is your opportunity...tell Nigerians exactly what you will do to bring down the price of petrol. Will you reintroduce subsidy?' How will you bring down the price of rice and bread?

These are the things that concern the man on the street.
