I think having 4 kids at age 32 inside this economy is a whole lot.

If he were to be over 40 years of age, I would want to understand that he probably had all 4 kids before the last 6 years which was Buhari's second term + Tinubu's first 2 years. One can cut him some slack that he never saw this coming.

I don't see why anybody should be having more than 3 kids with that kind of income in this current economy if such person wants to really have savings o. This one no be matter of " I love kids"
Me thinks even 3 kids is aseju in this economy, and the perfect number for his income bracket is two.

The economy ain't smiling and everything don quadruple in price. Creche/school fees, food, clothes, rent, healthcare, transportion, utility bills, groceries, school books.....you name it.

So people gats align their family size with their pockets for peace of mind, financial stability and ability to invest QUALITATIVELY in their kids future, and not just drag them along.

Also, people gats abandon that shit of "make we try once more for a particular gender" cos it doesn't end well most times, and don make many couples born pass wetin dem fit handle.

Once una get your desired number of kids, just lock up no matter their gender. And in locking up;

No do withdrawal method❌
No do safe period method❌
No go dey ingest neem oil❌

Cos all of dem dey fail.

Couples should visit a health care facility, and adopt a proper birth control/family planning method guided by a professional.

Make I rest my fingers for now.

I agree withe everything you've said here. People need to learn to appreciate kids as being gift of God to them irrespective of their gender.

Most people give birth to number of kids more than they can comfortably take care of because they are looking for a certain gender.

Some would cling on to archaic customs and traditional beliefs that if they don't have male kids then they don't have an heir that will take after them. This will keep pushing them to keep trying. Some also allow their parents and relatives' wants/desires to override how they want to plan their lives. I've seen a case where the husband's mother keeps encouraging her daughter-in-law to have try for a girl child because the woman only had sons and she now wants a daughter through her son's wife.

I said on this same thread that I plan to do a vasectomy after one or two kids, and they turned on me like I committed a crime. Even before Buhari entered office, I never liked the idea of having many children. One or two is enough for me.
After that, I know I can’t rely on CD forever, and I also don’t want my woman’s body going through unnecessary changes because of family planning, which seems like selfishness to me. Vasectomy makes the most sense for both parties.
I’ve noticed a lot of Africans are obsessed with having plenty kids like it’s a competition. That mindset isn’t for me sha.

My pull out game is A+ but I'd have to take measures regardless. Don't want no mistakes.
I hate how family planning changes some women. Better to close eye do vasectomy and enjoy yourself in peace without thinking about anything happening.

Ridding urself of the ability to reproduce is an extreme measure most Africans including myself will not subscribe to o. Anything can happen after you do the surgical procedure.

Talking about family planning, what kind of changes do you think can happen to your woman? Let me guess; she can get fat right ? What makes u think she won't get fat even after just one child? grin

He got it wrong by marrying a liability as a wife. That’s a reasonable income for a man whose wife earns half of that.

I am tempted to ask : All those professors wey dey use big SUVs, where dem dey see money buy am?
This is the owner of the payslip. There are professors in my line of work who are roster consultants with UN and EU Agencies. Their hustle does not end in a classroom.

I think u are jumping into hasty conclusions here. The guy didn't mention if his wife was a liability by or not.

I hope you know there are instances where a man marries a woman and asks her not to work because he feels the jobs available may not be worth the stress and he wants her to take care of the kids instead? For example the wife may be a primary school teacher who earns 50k per month and then the husband asks her to stop because he believes he earns well only for the economy to change and the husband realizes his income is no longer enough for the family.

Let's not just conclude he married a liability when he didn't mention anything of sort in his post.

“What if something bad happens tomorrow and you lose your kids?” I honestly don’t understand how people even think like that. So you're planning your entire life around tragedy? If something bad happens, life still goes on. You don’t live in fear of ‘what if’. That mindset is why some people have 7 kids with no plan.

This did not answer the most important part of my post in bold below

BlueRayDick:
I can understand professors in professional courses like Medicine, engineering, law, etc engaging in private practise which can fetch them good income that will supplement whatever they earn from the university system, but what about professors in fields like Languages, Religious studies , history, library studies, etc?
Is a professor of Christian Religious studies also a Consultant to UN and EU agencies? What of professors of Yoruba or Igbo Language? How many of them can actually be co-opted into being Consultant to those agencies?

I doubt any right thinking man will want his wife to stop earning because of 400k a month income. Men even hustle to open good businesses for their wives and a poor man on 400k will want to stop his wife from earning ?

I choose to believe that it’s a case of marrying a very young woman who hasn’t figured out life past doing sales girl.

Tragedies do happen whether u like it or not. It is not a matter of whether u think about it or u don't.

You have a car and u drive it with the intention of having a safe drive all year round. While u are being on ur best behaviour and being the best driver out there, a reckless driver can ram into ur car from rear or a useless danfo trying to get away from agbero/task force can damage your vehicle by the side. When that happens, u won't say kill urself rather u will look for means to fix ur car if u don't have valid comprehensive motor insurance covering ur car at that point. Now imagine u don't have financial capability nor insurance at that point; won't ur car remain in that damaged condition ?

Now Imagine u thinking no tragedy can befall u and somehow live happens. But u've rid urself of the ability to make babies. Shebi u will also remian in that condition for life? You taking away ur ability to make babies is u not making plan for any contingencies.

I am not preaching to u o, I am only telling u why people see that surgical procedure as an extreme decision most people will not take with full eyes open except their health and general well being depends on it.

Some men vehemently oppose their wives working because it causes "see finish" and other things. Many men in Naija will tell you that their goal is to have a job so their wife wont work

Also many women see it as a flex that they are staying at home and being taken care of.
