Marriage traditions has nothing to with what is going on in the country. Till today dowry in my family is =N=75 or less in some cases, the money will still be returned to the grooms family. All those things are just symbolic afterall the family can afford them. If however you choose to have a very big party after fulfilling the tradition that is up to you and your wife.

DIVINEEVIDENCE:
1. Rice, 1 bag.
This tribe no fashe rice.
Its not an occasions food.

2. Yam, 41 pieces.
They place value on yams.

3. Salt, 1 bag.
They are a coastal/riverine tribe.
Salt is symbolic.

4. Fruits, 1 basket.
This tribe produces fruits and is likely into commercial and subsistent farming.

Definitely not a tribe in all of Southern Nigeria.

My friend married from their late last year.
In fact, they won't take all of the 10k for each of mother and father.
They'll tell you that:
"Money to marry wife, dem no dey pay am finish".
Surprisingly, their women (the few we knew before my guy made the move) are so down to earth and cultured.

Honestly, it depends on perspective. To some, this list is modest — to others, it’s still a lot. But if the intention is love and not pressure, then even 1 item is enough. Marriage should start with peace, not debt.
