@ChatGPT U.S. citizens visiting Nigeria can be granted a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 5 years—a reciprocal measure Nigeria introduced in March 2023 . Here’s how it typically works: --- 📅 1. Visa Validity Up to 5 years multiple-entry visa, depending on applicant category and reciprocity rules. ⏳ 2. Duration of Stay Each individual entry generally allows a stay of up to 90 days. Extensions—typically in chunks of 90 days—are possible through the Nigerian Immigration Service . In some cases, entry stamps may authorize shorter stays (e.g., 30 days), based on border officer discretion. 🛂 Quick Summary Visa Feature Details Visa validity Up to 5 years (multiple entries) Stay per entry Typically up to 90 days Extensions Possible with application via immigration --- 🔄 In Practice Many U.S. passport holders receive a 5-year visa, though duration and length of stay per trip depend on one's application and consular decision . Recent traveler reports confirm the 90-day-per-trip rule, with extensions being obtainable if needed . 🧭 What You Should Do 1. Apply early at a Nigerian consulate or through an accredited service for a multi-year visa. 2. Check your entry stamp when arriving—this specifies your allowed stay length. 3. If you want longer than 90 days, apply for an extension well before your current permission expires. 🔍 Final Take U.S. citizens can receive a 5-year visa to Nigeria, usable multiple times. Each entry typically permits a 90-day stay, extendable via immigration. Actual duration per trip may vary depending on what the border officer approves upon arrival. My submission Going to pick single entry conditions on Nigeria immigration website and posting is disservice to ourselves. Let's not be caught in Trump's shenanigans. He placed a ban on us in 2020 due to some concerns which I believe we made the necessary updates, this then made them to start giving us 5years visa instead of the 2years we usually get, with full reciprocity from Nigeria as announced in February 2023. Google or AI is your friend. Aside that some of us still remembered what transpired then. Whatever issues he has now will surely be resolved. But when depends on Him? |

ocube:@ChatGPT You are kind of right here. In fact, I wanted to ask Nairalanders yesterday that " I think the U.S government just started issuing 5 -years visa validity to Nigerians ? The whole situation is confusing. 🙄 |

You obviously don’t know the use cases of chatgpt. There is a knowledge cutoff date. As of today, Nigeria is giving everybody (irrespective of nationality) a 3 months single entry visa. It’s all online and costs $160. Nobody gets 5 years multiple entry visa into Nigeria. PS: when prompting chatgpt for info that may change , start by saying “do a thorough internet search for the latest…” I am assuming you use the pro version ocube: |

That was in the era of sticker visa. The Nigerian visa is now Evisa, 3 months single entry for everyone, irrespective of country. Started May 1, 2025 missusadey: |

ocube:You should have shown us the multiple entry conditions on the Nigerian immigration website instead of relying on ChatGPT. That is the real disservice. No amount of propaganda or misdirection will work against the US govt. You will only be digging your ditch deeper. The Nigerian govt better fix this and fix it fast! |

Debbieeeeeee:The statement by @AdisaMighty is not correct. Please let's stop spreading misinformation. A simple research can educate all but we're all lazy. US citizens get 5 years visa reciprocity from Nigeria since 2023. This revised US policy is hinged on a different reason which is not difficult to decipher. |

studyless123:I don’t get. Isn’t the new e visa mandate only 3 months for anyone from any country trying to come to Nigeria. Is there something else you guys are insinuating? Rather than throwing subtle insults at yourselves |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by studyless123: 12:37pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
Lekan2348:If you don't get then you ask? The new e-visa policy was a replacement for visa on arrival (VoA). US citizens were not eligible for visa on arrival. You will have to go to the Nigeria embassy to get a physical visa on your passport. Just last week a US citizen got a Nigerian 5 year visa on her passport. You guys should read and learn. |

| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by studyless123: 2:08pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
AdisaMighty:Thanks for the references. This is not correct and that's where you're getting it wrong. Visa on arrival was not available for everyone. It was available for selected countries and individuals. Once you understand that, it will be easy for you to understand the rest of the process. |

| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by ocube: 2:30pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
Nigeria's Visa on Arrival is not for every country neither the e-visa which replaced it. There is the principle of reciprocity among nations. Nigeria in its magnanimity waive this for some countries while others are to visit Nigeria's embassy in their home country to apply for visa. Same way we have to go to embassies here not minding where you reside. Provision for multiple entry visa is only available at the embassy. https://immigration.gov.ng/nigerian-visa/ |

I’m not sure where you got this info from but it is not consistent with what is on the NG consulate Atlanta website. I also know a US citizen who was told this week at the consulate in Atlanta that he will get a 90-day visa. They said that they stopped issuing 5-year visas. The 90-day visa validity information is also on their website https://www.nigeriaconsulateatlanta.org/tourist-visas/ studyless123: |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by studyless123: 4:05pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
JohnZak:It's good to separate to issues. First, US citizens are not eligible for Visa on Arrival. The visa on arrival policy is different. Second - As at last week, someone got a 5 - year Nigerian visa. Nigeria offers multiple entry visa for US citizens. I don't have any information that this has been stopped. There's nothing in the website that shows that Nigeria issues only a 90-day visa. |

studyless123:Who be this guy or this woman. You’ve never come here to talk anything before but now you have energy to cause trouble. Im not the one you are fighting with. I am even here advocation for you guys to take it easy. Because someone got information wrong doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with them. Even this info you are giving us here is false. So calm down. Your blood is too hot |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Lekan2348: 4:09pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
AdisaMighty:It is as if everyone knows about the new e visa mandate except for this studyless person. Do your research well before coming here to be causing trouble. You’re not God, you can’t know it all. So calm down. You also can’t now be dragging someone for not knowing it all when your own version is false |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by JohnZak: 4:37pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
The section on visa validity on the consulate website says 90 days. Anyway, it’s not a big deal and no need derailing the thread because of this. Folks can take what they want from this - 90 days or 5 years. There are more important things to discuss here. studyless123: |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by studyless123: 4:39pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
JohnZak:I had the call the consulate in Atlanta and DC and the information didn't agree with what you posted. There is a difference between a 90-day visa and a 90-day stay. I have been applying for Nigerian visas for foreign nationals for over 10 years and I needed to confirm if any changes happened this week. |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Lekan2348: 4:40pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
JohnZak:I’m in complete agreement with you. All of this is by the way. How can someone be coming to fault someone for having bad information when you can just correct the person without being derogatory. The person’s information is now not accurate. Let’s be guided. It makes me wonder if the person is a bully in real life |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by studyless123: 4:42pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
JohnZak:There's no need misleading folks. This forum is full of false information and you and I have a responsibility to state correct information. The government have just clarified the issue that the issuance of 5 year visas was not stopped. At this point, I rest my case. |
