As I walked outside the door after a heavy down pour this morning. I saw this strange bird seeking shelter on the Clothsline in my balcony. I would have ignored her on a good day but she was looking at me and following me with her big yellow eyes. Her curiosity caught my attention so I snuck to her blind spot and kidnapped her. She put up a little fight and tried to bite me twice. I did a little research to satisfy my own curiosity. Google said it's some type of Falcon "Kestrel"

I'd probably end up releasing it. I don't think she can be domesticated.

Has anyone encountered or seen this type of bird before?
Abeg, no chop am o.

It is a falcon. OP, please how did you catch this?. Was it a trap you set or what? I hear falcons are expensive.

Lol that's the fastest animal on earth. I still wonder how the OP catch am sef... On a second look it might not be a Peregrine falcon which is supposedly the fastest animal on earth but a kestrel falcon. Young Peregrines look like kestrels too I didn't get a good look at the underbelly side to check something
I wonder how he caught it too!
Perhaps because it was raining.

Oh dear… that’s a rare species of bird from the depths of the Amazon rainforest. It's known for its ability to turn invisible when threatened and can only be seen by people who are color blind. Handle it carefully, as it's usually considered a bad omen when close encounters with humans such as this happens. And if you read this up till this point I want you to know that I have no freaking idea WTH I’m talking about cheesy

I thought as much. Because even though she's still young. She is very big for her age and her claws are very long. I would have Loved to cater for her but she's been trying to attack me at every opportunity she gets.

UPDATE : I released it after many failed attempts to feed it. She flew away gracefully. It was a precious experience to share with my kids.
Damn it! Why will you allow that treasure to fly away?

that's a kestrel, part of the hawk and kite family, it's a bird of prey that feeds on lizards, small snakes and chicks.
It can't be domesticated
OKOATA:
Lizard and rat is their best food. Lizards avoids them like plague. I even recorded a time one was eating lizard across my fence. "Falcon." Very fast and agile.
ARISHEM:
That is Lizards nightmare. When they see her they take cover immediately.

Oh my God, that is a pereguine falcon, the world's fastest animal.

Its so fast, that it became the symbol of aerodynamics, and the single reason why the US military can invent aircrafts such as the B-2 stealth bomber. The Japanese fastest train (shinkansen) also got lectures from this majestic bird.

But I am surprised. Is the bird captured in Nigeria?

Seun:
Please release it asap. Feed it with meat and give it water. If it wants to stay, it will stay. Your pictures are so gorgeous. Which phone is that?
