I even left better healthy Units on the Prepaid Meter our my Landlord got for every Flat though he asked us to pay #10k for the procurement in 2013.

Why didn't the landlord also do the needful to put a prepaid meter for all tenants....

I left 32 units in my prepaid meter when packing out. Though only because there's no how I wil take it

I remember how my father cleared the outstanding bill of one outgoing tenant with a promise that he will pay back. The tenant never paid back.

If the first tenant of any apartment paid all bills, incoming tenants won't inherit any outstanding arrears.

The post is meant to show the attitude of tenants who are quick to label landlords as greedy when 99.9% of tenants don't clear the power bills before leaving.

You sound like a typical landlord who is interested in only collecting rent, I made suggestions on how to discourage that behaviour from tenants, set ground rules by tenancy agreements and enforce them.

BTW not all landlords have this issue of tenants not paying their utility bills, it depends on how you manage your property.

This is what we do to ourselves and yet we still have the guts to blame those in Government because it is very convenient to do so. The same people are forming holy in Church and Mosque.
The failure start from home and how parents are raising their children.

I did.i also paid half d amount for a three phase meter to my landlord as nepa removed my meter for tampering

I even left units in both places I have stayed. Is just about being responsible and it shows in how you handle all aspects of your life.

I bought prepaid meter for the landlord before I left

I rent the apartment in may with 40 prepaid units now I have 460 units in my meter. But my landlord is trying to make me leave the apartment with unnecessary complains and conditions

I rented 4 houses all through house before moving into mine

My landlord is oweing some refund sef because I paid some old bill on the meter

Plenty, just few not paying but plenty dey pay oo walai

Who go pay existing outstanding bill you meet before pack in? That's not fair. Sometimes I pays in advance cos I eight embarrassment.

My mom shop tenant refused paying the shop light bill, they're about 11. When the NEPA official brought a free meter for the shop, they put a debt of 374k on it, they were earlier on estimated billing and wasn't paying their bills. They would bribe NEPA not to disconnect them, not knowing they're accumulating debts in such way.

Just few months of vending on the free meter cos whatever they buy, 60% will be going to service debt, they abandoned the meter and some of them came crying that something should be done as some just newly packed in, they claim they won't take the debt of old occupants. Out of Goodwill of my mom, she went and purchased another meter spending over 175k in total. New meter installed and those useless entity didn't vend on it, they enjoyed free light ride for 19months before NEPA official came to disconnect them.

The meter was malfunctioning and they didn't notify us. Since the meter doesn't trip off none of them speak out And they didn't vend on it as well.

It's been 9months now they were in total darkness.

NEPA served the shop a fine of 400k for meter tampering. All debts on the 2 meters is on the landlady, we do not hear from them, even to pay their rent comes with lot of delay. I told my mom to ignore them Nd never reconnect the light. Those who want to use light should do so in his/her pocket...

I'll never in my life build house or shop for rent. It's a waste of investment...

A lot of landlords will make sure you have settled everybill before you move out. However, if you are were a troublesome tenant even me i wont bother about you paying your bills or not, just comot from my house asap.

How?

I move out before my rent expires

To avoid see finish

I move out by 5am to 6am
And 10pm to 11pm

Always going to a better apartment

My tenant left with a bill of 1.47m. very frustrating. Her rent was 700k.

The tenants that caused the outstanding, have all long packed out..... So the ground floor apartments, no get light supply......

But top apartments and the rear flat, still got power supply......

If it's to demonize landlords now they will come out in droves.

Onigbese they will leave debts for landlords to pay.

One owed a year rent plus nepa bills, okay you want to leave ,leave rent at least that's our own money pay the bill iro, we had to pay the nepa bills after he left.
One other one wanted to start owing omo we got prepaid oo, all her gbese was transferred to it. She paid it all.

Thank God for prepaid.

Prepaid meters solved that problem for landlords

Why don't you need new house?

Electricity is one of those basic amenities I don't joke with, cus I can't stand the sight of my neighbors having electricity while I sleep in darkness. In my former house, I bought about 5k card of which I didn't exhaust all till I parked.
Before I move in to a new place now, I always observe the meter to know how much token or debt is left back by the previous occupant, if it's something little I can pay I will do that. But if it's a huge deposit, the landlord will have to deduct the money from the rent am about to pay him ( that's what I did in the present apartment I'm occupying)

This stuff does not happen with prepaid meter?

This question should not arise if every energy consumer is metered, estimated bill is big fraud that must be abolished in Nigeria because it exposes the consumer and the supplier or the distributor to fraud.
