Anglican Church Bans Partisan Speeches By Politicians During Services by Omooba77(op): 10:44pm On Jul 12, 2025
The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has released guidelines on how politicians and government officials should be received during church services and programmes, as part of efforts to maintain the sanctity and neutrality of Christian worship.

The directive was issued by the Primate of the Church, Most Revd Henry Ndukuba, during the Episcopal Consultation held in the Diocese of Nike, Enugu.

According to the Church, via a memo on Friday by the Director of Communication, Korede Akintunde, the guidelines became necessary following growing concerns about the increasing use of church gatherings as platforms for political statements, which risk undermining the core purpose of worship.

“The church remains open to all persons, including politicians and government officials.

“However, the church must not engage in or promote partisanship,” the memo stated.

The church emphasised that any guest expected to address the congregation must first have a prior discussion with church leadership to offer appropriate guidance.

“Guests are to be informed clearly that the church is not a platform for advancing partisan views or political propaganda.

“Church leaders and officiants must refrain from making statements or behaving in ways that could be construed as politically aligned or sectional.

“No church official should eulogise or exalt any guest in a manner that might bring the church into disrepute.

“Where possible, guests should not be permitted to use the church’s lectern when speaking, as it has been consecrated for the reading of God’s Word,” the statement read.

While affirming its responsibility to engage with government authorities on issues affecting the people and the nation, the church reiterated its commitment to being a moral compass for society.

“The church remains committed, under God, to being the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

“We will continue to uphold the nation in prayer and offer godly counsel to those in positions of authority,” Ndukuba stated.

out of politics.

And also the notorious drunkard who always gets drunk on forty-year-old whiskey to desecrate the pulpit during his so-called church thanksgiving service.

The outrage that followed Wike's desecration of the altar of God is thus, justified. The church knows the truth; Wike was mudslinging a decent man by all ramifications. It will hurt the conscience of the church if they do not prevent such from happening again.

I know they did it because of Wike's comment when he recently went for 'thanksgiving'.

All politicians does that not one man, but the man in question does it more and rub it one the faces of all Christians as being bias. Anglican has done very well let can direct all churches to issue statement or simply banning politicians from using temple of God for their self gains.

Long overdue. We are all one. Noone should be allowed to politicised churches. If this step is not taken, 2027 campaign in the church will not be only Obi, all Christians politicians will take it as new method to sell Thier candidate and it will lead to serious problems. We saw what Wike did, it was intentional.

At an event to honour a Reverend Father who always preached love & service to mankind, Mr Peter Obi & others who were deemed privileged were required to serve the people, he & others obliged.

This is like Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. Such humility is required of politicians who should see themselves as servant-leaders.

In Toastmasters International, it is called Role-Playing. Irrespective of your experience, status, et al, you could be required to play such roles that are not deemed highly esteemed.

Besides, Core Value of Toastmasters International is RISE: Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence.

Mr Peter Obi has these core values & many more, and he is so much loved by millions of Nigerians!

That is why Deeper Life and JW edge out. Irrespective of your status, they can collect microphone from your mouth if you are crossing the redline during service

Why invite guests to address the congregation? Yes ...the church is open to politicians and all ... but why can't they be like everybody else? ... be ushered to a seat ... sit and listen ...sing and shout ... make an offering ... and if they feel like it ... step up and testify ..or better ... confess to stealing or dispatching thugs to do some damage to his challengers or whatever. Again ...why can't they be treated like everybody else? The church is catering to politicians ... hypocrites everywhere.
