We saw some people complaining that they weren't allowed to contest in the last L.G.A election in Lagos. Let these people remember that this is a local government election. It belongs to the people living in that local government and you have to do their wishes... Everyone knows that state governors always win the local government elections for their parties, so why are people disturbing themselves? What matters most is *INEC FEDERAL ELECTIONS* to vote in the president or senators/house of reps .. No matter where you are in Nigeria, no one can stop you from voting whom you want as President. Even in Governorship allow the state owners vote whom they want as Governor regardless of party. Obey the wishes of the indigenes, so long you are a visitor to the state. Nigeria is not yet ripe for UK or US politics. However in Federal Election (President) no one can stop you from voting no matter where you are... You can live in Akure and Vote For Peter Obi like me, or you can be in Aba and vote Tinubu like others. |

The fear of the Igbos is the beginning of wisdom. If not for fear of dominance, tell me what it is for not allowing them vote. |

Which country are you referring to? So non-indegenes should not be paying taxes and levies in Lagos? What type of reasoning is this please? |

Validated:The state already provide them with security and infrastructures. That, they must pay for through their tax . How come we don’t read your complaints about non participation in the core North of Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto or Bornu . Yorubas are your easy pick Abi . No, you are mistaken! |

Ofunaofu:It is not It is the reality on ground You can speak all the English you like changes nothing It is not written anywhere that an Ibo man can never be president but we all know that is reality. It is an unwritten reality No Ibo man can be president in Nigeria |

| Re: Only Federal Elections Should Concern Non-state Indigenes by Ofunaofu: 12:41pm On Jul 13, 2025 |
aribisala0:The purpose of my comment is not to debate whether an Igbo man or woman will become the president of Nigeria or not. The last time I checked, an Igbo man has been the Head of State of this country, which is essentially the same as being president, especially in a democratic dispensation. An Igbo man has also served as Vice President during a democratic era. Nigeria did not begin to exist only in 1999. If we intend to give every ethnic group a chance to produce a president, it would take many years to accomplish that, considering there are over 200 ethnic groups in Nigeria. However, the main point of this discussion is to verify whether the OP’s claim that non-indigenes should only participate in federal elections is supported by the constitution. You have already clarified that the answer is 'no.' Therefore, I would like to call on Seun, Mynd44, Nlfpmod, OAM4J, and all other mods to delete this thread, as it poses a threat to Nigerian society, public order, and peace. It is capable of inciting chaos and widespread unrest. |

| Re: Only Federal Elections Should Concern Non-state Indigenes by aribisala0(m): 12:49pm On Jul 13, 2025 |
Ofunaofu:What was the purpose Yes you are right an Ibo man became Head of State after the murderous Ibo coup of 1966 that plunged the country into chaos which we are yet to recover from The usurper stole power by murderous force Now we hope to maintain a democratic future And without that kind of violence of 1966 in a democratic era and Ibo will never be president I already answered the constitutional question you are choosing to ignore the answer. The answer is the constitution does not say an Ibo man cannot be president but in practice he cannot How many Yoruba people are councillors in Anambra or Enugu Spare us the silly hypocritical questions That is your answer. You are being a hypocrite asking such inane questions |

Shawarmagirl:But no one fear domination than the Igbos. |
| Re: Only Federal Elections Should Concern Non-state Indigenes by Ofunaofu: 1:47pm On Jul 13, 2025 |
aribisala0:First, let’s establish one thing clearly: ethnic profiling and historical revisionism are not valid arguments in a democratic conversation. Referring to the 1966 coup as an "Igbo coup" is not only factually misleading but dangerously reductionist. The coup involved young officers from multiple ethnic groups, and its consequences were felt across the nation not by one region alone. Trying to hang the blame for Nigeria’s enduring challenges on one ethnic group is the kind of divisive rhetoric that continues to set us back as a nation. The beauty of democracy lies in possibility, not tribal gatekeeping. To say “an Igbo man will never be president unless by violence” is not just a lie, it’s a self-own you're essentially admitting that your preferred system isn’t really democratic, but ethnically rigged. That’s not a flex, that’s a failure of the nation. You asked how many Yoruba people are councillors in Anambra or Enugu. That question deliberately ignores the massive political and economic privileges Yoruba people enjoy nationally especially in Lagos, where non-indigenes live, work, pay taxes, and often face systemic exclusion. So if we’re going to talk about fairness, let’s talk about it in full not selectively. Finally, calling my question “sîlly” or “hypocrîtîcal” just because it makes you uncomfortable doesn’t make it any less valid. It's in the constitution that all Nigerians have equal rights, and no amount of name-calling will change that fact. If we’re truly interested in building a better Nigeria, then the real work is in dismantling the mentality you’ve just displayed one that uses old wounds as excuses for present injustice. Enough of the tribál scapegoating. Let's move forward like citizens, not like ethnîc champions. |

So it’s that how it’s done in New York, or other prominent cities around the world ?? Well I can sight fear of the unknown; and it’s time all ethnicities in Nigeria decide Unity purpose! It’s sad to read this A non indigene can participate on an election provided the host community values, social systems will not be compromised |
