If Lagos is over populated, what would you say about Tokyo
You can't compare a meticulously efficient nation to a third world country.

how does Lagos have the power to move projects and infrastructure to Ogun and oyo states?
The FG can help in that regard.

Lagos is a small piece of land, overpopulation rubishes the best effort of the state government to provide adequate infrastructure for her populace.

Is the operator competent? Was the equipment in good operational condition? Were necessary safety protocols observed?

Many of these mushroom companies setup by cronies just to take advantage of quick money from their benefactors with no proven experience in the field the claim to operate, things like these cause accidents. Looking at the crane it doesnt seem adequate for the job.

The construction site is located along Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Avenue, Ikoyi; the route going from Ikoyi passport office to Osborne Road/Alfred Rewane Road (and close to Ikoyi golf club). They were constructing the new Dado luxury residential high-rise development in Ikoyi. May the soul of the departed rest in peace.

What would have caused this now Tori oloun

Safety the first in anything we do nah
Not getting external safety officers to check the state of the crane. Another factor is the weight of load, if the weight of the load is more than the crane it will lead to collapse. Imagine use using a crane with a max 8 ton capacity to life a load of 12 tons. Crane operations needs some calculations and planning. But we they naija some operators and riggers no even get license.

Clearly load miscalculation, our crane operators are very fond of overbearing cranes just because they have tried it a couple of times and nothing happened , they fail to realize Everytime you over near a crane you weaken it's fulcrum point and doing than on and on will lead to structural failure

Most crane accidents occur when neglecting the OEM's safe use limits. RIP to the dead.

Accidents like this are normal in construction sites, what's imperative is the response to such occurrences and how to mitigate them
Please accident like this are not normal in construction sites if you put the right measures in place.
First, was the crane used to lift loads way beyond its capacity?
If so, how it be normal in construction sites?
Were preventive checks carried out on the carry periodically before now, these would have shown some existing faults or failures.
If it wasn't done, how can it be normal in construction sites?
Did the crane operator complained of "unusual signal or noise" and was told to manage it for task at hand? If so, how can it be normal in construction sites?
I really don't know what informed, the assumption that this is normal in construction sites.
Anyway, l believe that investigation would reveal that actual cause and those responsible should be punished.

I beg to differ, accidents are not normal but are caused when we keep normalising little risk. If you look at the company’s paper work, you will see a trend and a lapse that led to this tragedy. Training and adherence to best practices cannot be an over kill when dealing with heavy machineries.
Same with the company I'm working with rn.

Taking safety for granted.

The FG can help in redirecting population pulling projects like seaports and major industries away from Lagos. The Apapa port complex is a nightmare for people and businesses in that corridor, the very many trailers and tankers that overwhelm that area now imagine when lekki port comes on stream for such a small landmass.

The overpopulation in Lagos affects everything from schools to accomdation to hospitals to transportation etc, very many people chasing very few houses etc

1. which seaport and major industries project is presently going on in Lagos?

where in Ogun and Oyo should seaports be situated?

2. is it seaport that is making Lagos overpopulated?

3. is Lekki Port off stream?

4. did Lagos say that it needs help?

5. how did "overpopulation" in Lagos affect "schools, accomdation, hospitals and transportation"?

did you look for schools, accomdation, hospitals and transportation in lagos and you did not get?

6. what is the "etc"?

1. The dangote refinery should not have been in lekki, the original location at Ondo was more suitable.Thousands of tankers transiting to and fro lekki is a disaster unfolding.
Dangote have submitted plans for a new seaport in Olokola,Ogun state. That's way forward.
2.It is a contributory factor. Functional seaports should be a given in other locations along the coastline.
3. Lekki seaport is still a work in progress at full capacity it will add to more congestion on Lagos road.
4. Lagos is overwhelmed by population from other states, there's little they can do about it.
Fashola attempted deportation but didn't work.
5. Schools and hospitals in Lagos are terribly overcrowded.A 20 minutes commute can take 4 hours.lagos go slow can reduce your life expectancy.
There's never enough quality accomodations to go round. A sizable chunk of Lagos is slum unfit for human habitation.
We are talking of 20M people in a 3500 square km landmass.
