Lekan2348:Work on your status and your eligibility to travel. When I was planning to travel to the US about 14 years ago, I had 4 different visa options. I work on myself and develop myself instead of wailing because of visa restriction. If you spend 4 hours reading everyday for 3 years, it will go a long way sir. |

studyless123:I have not mocked you on this chat o. Mr or Mrs studyless. I have been respectful in all my dealings here so be guided with all of this. I can assure you that you will see me in person and not be able to say all these things to me. Because we are here on nairaland does not give you a reason why. I have grown men and women that work for me and I pay salaries to and I treat everybody with respect. Respect that should be reciprocal. So it is not you that will make me come out of behavior. God bless you for what you have said. I will not be responding to you again |

Lekan2348:There's a difference between when someone is ignorant and when someone is deliberately pushing a false narrative. I come on Nairaland about once in 2/3 months and I don't even know where to start. Misinformation everywhere and some deliberately tell lies. @AdisaMighty was concocting false information and I had to correct him because others quickly into it. What he was saying doesn't make sense but you felt that you knew better. Instead of you to accept correction and move on, you've turned it into a personal issue. I have fought institutions and not individuals. I respect everyone but fear no one. So if you misbehave you will collect. I gave you an advise to cultivate a reading culture and you think I can't say that to your face, tell me where to meet you up if you want to see me. |

Please my b1/b2 visa interview is tomorrow Please what are tips I need to understand I’m actually nervous Omo |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by studyless123: 9:29pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
Jane8999:It's normal to be nervous. Try as possible to be calm before your session. Go with the mindset that the refusal rate is high. Be familiar with what you filled in the form - and be able to speak to it. I wish you the very best. |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Cashmadam: 9:40pm On Jul 10, 2025 |
Jane8999:Calm down! You will be fine! 1. Pray! 2. Get all your documents ready tonight - don't leave it till the last minute 3. Get to the embassy at least 30 minutes before your appointment. The earlier, the better. That gives you time to comport yourself 4. Don't listen to the touts around the Embassy. They cannot help you in any way. Focus on your mission there 5. When it is your turn for the interview, be confident, speak clearly, answer only the questions you are asked 6. Avoid over explaining any point 7. If you don't understand a question, ask for clarification 8. Do not lie 9. Remember all the information in your DS 160 form. Do not change your information for any reason. Remain consistent. Same question might be asked in different ways to check if you are lying 10. Maintain eye contact. Do not act desperate. The more relaxed you are, the better 11. Do not offer any document unless you are asked 12. Listen attentively and ensure you understand a question or comment before you say anything 13. Remember: anything you say can and will be used against you. Choose your words very carefully 14. Pray silently throughout the interview - prayers work! 15. Whatever the outcome is, accept it as the will of God and move on Keep us informed. Good luck! |

Hi, Being nervous is normal and I understand but don't allow the nerves get to you. Think of the interview like a conversation- don't be informal and don't over-talk but confidently pass your points across. My tips? 1. Prepare for typical questions. I have shared a list of some below. You can Google for more. You don't want to sound robotic like you memorised all answers but you also don't want to be unprepared. 2. Closely tied to point 1, understand that the interview is the main thing. They are not likely to ask for documents so let your words communicate what you need to communicate. Don't think if they ask who you are visiting, your answer will be to present an invitation letter or if they ask about your job, you will present employment letter. Be ready to speak in the 3-5 minutes you have with them. 3. This one is very important. Ignore what is going on in other windows. As you wait your turn, you may witness several rejections, ignore them because everybody's case is different. You are there to receive your approval. Don't let the refusals you witness distract and destabilise you. 3. Get there early so you don't feel rushed. 4. It's okay if circumstances have changed from what you have in your DS 160 eg your travel dates but have an explanation that makes sense. Possible questions 1. What's the purpose of your visit? 2. How long do you plan to stay in the US? 3. Where in the US will you be visiting (be specific) and who are you visiting (if applicable)? 4. What do you do for a living? All the best with your interview! Jane8999: |

Jane8999:■■ Any information or tips you are getting now will confuse you because you don't have time to juggle different opinions from responders. The best way you can sound natural is to go with your previous knowledge. The minimum time-frame to fully understand and assimilate mock practise is 4-weeks. By that time, you will not start answering questions as if you are reciting ABCD which usually upset the consulars. But you will understand how to form diffrent wordings with A. B. C. D. etc.. TIPS : ■ Dont sit back at home and be asking for visa tips at the eleventh hour. ■ No visa applicant should attend interview with negative mindset. As a man thinketh so he is. 👍 |

Jane8999:Thanks for sharing your experience. Don't feel too disappointed, millions of people have experienced same. It doesn't define you in any way. Just encourage yourself and retool. Everyone that has gone through this path know visa denial can be extremely draining because of all the time, efforts, money and emotions invested in the endeavour. Just work on your home ties, economic circumstance and international travel experience. These are the basic foundation for getting visas easily. Please remove Dubai from that your list, those guys are just a waste of resources; instead, direct such reaources to other tourist-choice locations or European countries. They've even made it extremely difficult for Naija to visit their country. If you have the financial capacity and a stable job with good pay, try and build your travel profile in this order: Go to Schengen this year, UK next year, then try US again. The funds you plan to use to travel to the US this year, deploy it to travel to another western country. Previous travels are important in demonstrating you do not have immigration intent. And it's always easier to get visas if your previous travels follow a pattern. For example, say 2021 holiday in Morocco, 2022 in Spain, 2023 in France, 2024 in UK, etc With a good pay and stable job, you should be able to get a Schengen visa if packaged properly. Try France, they give the most visas. And they treat applications relatively faster. |

Jane8999:■■ YOU Update They denied the visa It was at Abuja embassy They denied almost 10 people before me One thick black American lady like that The 10 people they denied were not qualified, same way as you did not qualify for the visa. Let's assume that you qualified, then you were not prepared based on the fact that you came to Nairaland @ the eleventh hour seeking for visa success tips. YOU She asked me my purpose of travel , where I am travelling to, my job, how much I earn, and if I have travelled outside Nigeria And then denied me This is a bias or unfair transcript towards the consular. Now you have painted the consular who interviewed you as a wicked or bad consular. But you did not tell us, " How did you answer those questions ? YOU Well I plan on travelling to other countries before applying again I have only travelled to Benin republic and Togo I plan on travelling to uk,Kenya and Dubai Then I will apply again Benin Republic , and Togo are international travels, so when they cannot help your travel history, how will traveling to UK, Kenya and Dubai help you ? The U.S. embassy has changed the game. They knows that many average and wealthy Nigerians can travel anywhere and come back to their embassy in order to come and claim good travel histories. Ipso facto, a person with a genuine and reasonable travel history to South Africa, Uganda, and Tunisia, will have a visa success than a person who have traveled for fun to Canada, Australia, and Japan. ■■ Therefore, the U.S B1/B2 visas are no more about good travel histories. It is now about the satisfaction of all requirements, which includes psychological assessment of your personality and genuine intention. Note: Genuine intention of visa applicant is what eventually determines your visa even when you are not qualified or when you are over qualified, but only the interviewing visa officer can determine that. Note: Lack of good communication skills or how to express oneself in the presence of the consular is the 2nd tool. Many visa applicants unknowingly sounded like a braggart. Some sounded like a would-be terrorist eg i hate Nigeria. When you hate Nigeria, you will eventually hate America. Lastly, many visa applicants feel uneasy as soon as they face the visa officer. All these mentions surpasses personal credentials in assessment of U.S visa success. 👍 |

Efetobore1980:Very valid points here … your denial does not stem from one particular reason. You just failed ‘in that moment’ to convince that particular visa officer that you have strong ties to Nigeria. Like you mentioned, she was on a denial spree. You can go back there tomorrow, have an interview with a different visa officer and get approved. It really comes down to the interview and your ability to convince. Your body language goes a long way and confidence is key |

Hello Jane8999, To add to this, if you decide on France, as at today, the next submission date for France first time applicants is sometime in September. Your decision might take about a month so you can still travel October or even do a Christmas trip. Milito: |

| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Milito: 8:43pm On Jul 13, 2025*. Modified: 5:56am On Jul 14, 2025 |
Efetobore1980:One key point you seem to be missing is that a lot of people that are well traveled are usually more relaxed and confident during such interviews. And they statistically have more approvals. This confidence is achieved among other things, through international exposure. That is why one must strive not to be a local champion. ![]() When you have faced and answered immigration questions at different parts of the world; that exposure and experience, as simplistic as it sounds, makes one more relaxed, confident and explicit when facing similar travel scrutiny. Even our Naija immigration knows. That is why when they are playing their gimmicks to extort at the airport, when they flip through your passport and see plenty stamps like this, they just try to beg you for money and wave you on. But those with non or just one or 2, you'll see them trying to intimidate and extort them. I once met one knuckle head immigration officer at Stansted London who kept on interrogating more than I've ever faced. I swear, if that was my 1st travel, I'd have been totally destabilised and may mistalk. My previous experience guided me in calmly answering his questions and providing all he requested. I even still asked him "Will that be all?" After he kept quiet and was staring and staring at his monitor. He finally gave me the usual fake UK smile and stamped me in. |

Milito:Oga, what exactly is your point? Can you please stop using your so called travel history to mock others? I'm sure you were also a local champion not too many years ago.... By the way, the airport is called London Stansted Airport. Not Stansted London... |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Milito: 5:46am On Jul 14, 2025 |
Cashmadam:Madam Cashmadam, you need to calm down and understand the context of my writeup. Mock how? You obviously did not comprehend the premise of my writeup, which is based on previous interaction with the person I quoted. There's a trail, follow it to understand. I proudly live in a local domain in Naija so pardon me if I say Heathrow London/ London Heathrow or Or even Lagos MMA or MMA Lagos. ![]() |

Hello all, My mum has an interview at the embassy. Am her sponsor. Currently based in the US. Do I need to give her my bank statements. I don’t know if there’s a better way to go about this, incase she is asked for the sponsors’ statement. Has anyone done this? |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by solihp(f): 6:37pm On Jul 14, 2025 |
angel55:They will most likely not ask for the bank statement, but you can give her your bank statement incase they ask. I gave my dad my bank statement but he was not asked for it. |
| Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Efetobore1980(m): 7:06pm On Jul 14, 2025 |
angel55:Hello. Millions of people have done it before including @solihp who just narrated her personal experience to you. ■■ The best form of POF (proof of funds) is a physical bank statement, therefore you have to give it out to mama. However , If mama has a personal Naira account you can transfer the calculated expenses in Naira or provide your own Naira account. ■● Mama can be placed on 221g if you provide an international account which the consular might need extra time to verify. ■● U.S Consulars 65% of the time doesn't ask for documents but they are not predictable. Therefore do the needful by letting mama to attend the interview with necessary requirements. 👍 |
