mrvitalis:which of the questions did your response answer? 1. how do modern economies work? 2. how should poverty be eliminated? 3. what was the purpose behind obudu cattle ranch resort? |

EmekaA125:solution fun city gate fee is 1500. Do you think that's what it will take to run that place? Nike lake is constantly needing government intervention to run properly and the only because subsequent governors are from the same line |

I thought the immediate former governor of the state Benedict Ayade claimed he was resuscitating it! Such a revenue accruing venture should have been best managed by private companies as it has always been a norm that government cannot sustain an establishment like obudu ranch resort! This resort if well managed and adequately funded could have been fetching billions monthly in IGR for cross rivers state! All Ayade knew was to title his annual budgets with unnecessary and outlandish jargons! |

mrvitalis:Since most of you have become overnight economist...must the state be directly 8nvolved in everything ![]() Why not privatize the Ranch and let the experts run it under relevant terms and conditions.... All those Governors who jumped in after Governor Donald Duke used the place to launder money period! |

Imoke and the other stunted professor who calls his budgets Olympotic Meristemasis and Qabalistic densification were the anathema packaged from hell to Cross River. They so reversed the gains made by Donald Duke. Tinapa is also looking like a haunted town all because Donald's successors wanted to kill his initiatives and promote their own legacies. Sadly, they had no legacies to leave. The scale of incompetent and mediocre government they provided was second to none. A place that had cable cars taking international visitors/tourists through the vegetation and wildlife reserves has been so messed up. |

jmoore:Ayade, from this Obudu was governor for 8 years and just handed over to the current governor The only positive thing he achived was curtailing cultism. His format should be exported to other cultism infested states |

exposition:That person you quoted is very notorious for sometimes posting disinformation on this discussion forum. The young dude seems NOT to realize that others on this discussion forum are highly educated and are well-traveled. He's from Mbaise according to him so he's NOT an Ayade appointee. The Obudu ranch indeed attracted a lot of Nigerian and foreign tourists until a few years ago under the private managers that handled that place. With Cross River State's oil wells being transferred to Awka Ibom State and the loss of revenue from the Bakassi Peninsula which was transferred to Cameroon, Cross River State has NEVER been the same. The Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort in Ekiti State was voted as the BEST resort in Nigeria for 2 strait years in 2023 and 2024. @GoSeeIkogosi could end up being voted again in 2025 as the BEST resort in Nigeria because it has very good private managers who have built world-class chalets and hosts several conferences. The current Cross Rivers State Government can look at that model in Ekiti State and see how the Obudu Ranch can be reactivated with all those cable cars and more. The scenery in Obudu is simply breathtaking from the hills and must NOT go to waste. |

Why are our leaders so reckless and vision less ? Why didn't the successive Govt do their best to sustain the touristic investment . I recalled that Donald Duke was so passionate about the project ..he really invested the state money into it but Imoke abandoned it when he assumed office. Billions are rotting away and this is very bad |

I almost booked for a trip to this place this last Easter. Thank God it didn't work work out. Didn't know it's this bad. To those claiming, it's a drain on the states funds, there is what is called break-even point in business. With security, ease of access, much promotion and advertisement, international tourist would have been attracted and with time it would have broken even. I learnt power is a big challenge in the resort If power generation was factored in in the beginning may be it would have helped. Handover this same place to a consortium, Chinese or Indians they would run it profitably in few years time. Ibom icon and golf resort is run by a consortium and not Akwa Ibom state government. |

lexy2014:the state had money to fund projects like this. FAAC and 13% derivation as an oil producing state. As they lost the oil block their finances reduced and they could not spend on things like this again

The Project surely was and is still a bankable project; the only issue was the lack of Federal and state government support and the effect of politics. If there was an airstrip or light rail or good roads with scheduled bus service and security......Private folks would have taken it over. The narrative that Nigeria is a broke country is a dumb narrative being propagated by the Government when it suits its officials. To be clear , its not for broke people and they will never see the value If only you knew the number of Nigerians who travel on holiday and how much they spend......you would see this was a no-brainer. Nigeria is just a dream killer and I'm sure Donald Duke will be heartbroken for daring to dream big. Nigeria has smart people , its the machinery of Government that has failed and broken down . Only purposeful and inclusive restructuring will fix it. |

ADAMUdaCOWBOY:I know most of you hate facts and would rather live in your world of fantasy. According to world Bank and NBS(Nigeria bureau of statistics) Nigeria is the headquarters of poverty and over 120ml of us live below the poverty level. NBS went further to state that less than 5% if us have above 500k($300) in our accounts. Add our increased levels of insecurity and kidnappings associated with road travel, how many people do you think have enough disposable income to afford the luxury of obudu? |

mank1234:wouldn't it be better if government had invested in power generation and boosting productivity and then private investors can build such facilities and charge cost reflective fees and keep it running. You folks largely represent our politicians who would rather build white elephant projects than build solutions for our fundamental problems |
