One Dies in Crane Accident on Lagos Construction Site as Government Seals Premises

A tragic crane accident at a construction site in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos has claimed the life of Rotimi Adesina, a crane operator, prompting swift intervention by the Lagos State Safety Commission. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to an official statement, the Commission sealed off the construction site immediately after preliminary investigations confirmed the fatality. Adesina was critically injured during crane operations and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

🛑 Site Sealed as Investigation Begins
Officials from the Lagos State Safety Commission arrived at the site shortly after the incident occurred. The Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu, were questioned and asked to provide all documentation related to the crane and site operations.

The Commission stated that all relevant documents are currently held at the company’s head office and must be submitted for comprehensive safety compliance review.

“The safety of lives is key, and on no account should safety precautionary measures be compromised,” said Lanre Mojola, Director-General of the Safety Commission.

🚫 Site Sealed With Abatement Notice
In response to the fatal accident, Mojola ordered the immediate sealing of the construction site, serving an abatement notice to halt all operations until the site is deemed safe. The action aims to prevent any further danger to workers and site personnel.

💬 Government Reacts
DG Mojola expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enforcing strict safety protocols on construction sites.

“We are committed to ensuring such tragic incidents do not happen again by strictly enforcing safety standards across all construction projects in Lagos State,” Mojola added.

Further updates on the ongoing investigation are expected in the coming days.

God bless Tinubu for continuing to support strict safety measures but this tragic incident is a reminder of how urgent it is to enforce these measures across construction sites.

Accidents happen especially in construction sites, though in Naija, we're not so concerned about safety... it is well with the family he left behind 😭

So sad, what a terrible way to die.

The safety manager will be in big soup if all safety operational guidelines were not followed.

There are some little things he or she might have overlooked...like certifying the crane fit for operation...it's possible he or she didn't check the crane..and must have assumed the crane is perfectly, especially, if it was perfectly used a day before.

A worker has no right in this side of the world.
This has been a regular occurrence after which the government will shut down the organisation. Why can't they be monitored and supervised to prevent it from happening

I have a funny feeling that the crane operator had been complaining about the crane long before then but was always told to "manage" it till they find solution and since he doesn't want to sit at home and receive verbal bullets from his wife, he continued managing the obviously structurally faulty crane

a worker has right especially in these sorts of situations. You have a right to say I won't operate this crane except repairs are made or another one is brought in. The only problem is Nigeria's economic situation right now will put the company at advantage because if you refuse to work, another person will take over immediately with a few sacrifices to Ogun for protection

Things happen everyday in this life, here someone is celebrating life, there another is mourning, somewhere else someone is cruising in a yatch with 6 hot wags, exotic drinks, jacuzzi, oblivious of what the others are doing.
