Wike dares Senator Ireti Kingibe: ‘Go to satellite towns and campaign against me if you can’ Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a bold challenge to Senator Ireti Kingibe, daring her to visit Abuja’s satellite towns and criticize his performance in office if she truly believes he has failed as a minister. The minister in a statement, issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, was in response to Senator Kingibe’s remarks during a television interview on Monday night. In the interview, Kingibe had claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s “biggest mistake” was appointing Wike as Minister of the FCT. Reacting, Olayinka accused the Senator of being driven by desperation and political fear ahead of the 2027 elections. “She is already blinded by the spirit of her impending electoral woe and cannot see the massive transformation happening across Abuja and its satellite towns,” he stated. He continued: “It is funny that someone who is impersonating by using the name of Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, who is no longer her husband, believes that jumping from one television station to another to disparage the FCT Minister will revive her dead political career.” Olayinka then dared the Senator to take her criticisms directly to residents of communities such as Saburi, Dei Dei, Kabusa, Ketti, Yangoji, Pai, Gomani, Gishiri, Kwaita, Yebu, Sukuku, Ebo, and Ushafa—areas he said have benefitted significantly from new road projects and other developments. “She should mount the rostrum and tell the people of these towns that appointing Wike was a mistake. She can also go to the traders at Apo Mechanic Village, whose relocation dreams are finally being realised after 15 years, and tell them it was a mistake,” he said. “In Abaji, the Federal Capital Territory University (FCTU), which had been abandoned for nearly 15 years, is now undergoing massive infrastructural development. Also, general renovation of 22 schools has been completed in the last year, with more than 40 others currently being renovated,” Olayinka added. He described Kingibe’s criticisms as politically motivated, saying, “She knows that in 2027, she won’t be able to retain the Senate seat she accidentally got in 2023. The factor that brought her into the Senate is gone, so she’s attacking Wike to gain relevance.” Olayinka also accused the Senator of poor treatment of her aides. “Wike is not in the comity of frustrated politicians like Ireti ‘Kingibe’ who is treating her aides like slaves, refusing to pay their wages and entitlements for months,” he alleged.
