This is what i discovered after attending some burials in the Muslim North. A Son bury their parents. As in putting them inside the grave and covering them with shovels after shovels of sand.

In the South East this is not the case. People will bring you out and give one teaspoon full of sand in which you throw into the grave and they lead you out again while the main shoveling of sand begins. You don't help in putting them in the grave and won't help in shovelling sand over them either, you may feel dizzy and fall into the grave. You won't even have the strength to do any of those things.

Your observations is spot on. And I must add that in Islam, women are not that encouraged to do the internment or participate physically because they are deemed too emotional and could break out with Crying and Wailing in no Time.

Amongst the Yoruba Muslims in the South too this holds true. And you can also find Relatives, friends, neighbours actively participating with the Covering of the Grave with Dirt shovelling after they must have asked the Sons or Daughters to do so First.

Nothing is fishy given the funeral ways of the deceased faith.
You don't expect those heads of states to show up on impromptu notice like they've got nothing doing.

Nothing is fishy anywhere.
It is the small minds of many Nigerians that is, as always, playing a fast one on them.
This is a typical muslim burial. No one waits for dignitaries before conducting islamic burials.

Presidents from other countries will certainly start coming for condolences afterwards.
