With the way everybody is giving too much relevance to this northern votes, it's sounding like the only contribution of the north to our Commonwealth is their votes. This is ridiculous if I must say.

Whats reno saying?

Peter Obi’s absence at General Muhammadu Buhari’s funeral in Daura should not be misinterpreted as a slight to the North or a display of disrespect. In reality, attending a funeral—even one of a former president—is not a constitutional or political obligation, but a matter of personal discretion.

Many prominent Nigerian leaders, including former presidents, have skipped high-profile funerals in the past without such actions being politicized. For instance, President Muhammadu Buhari himself failed to attend the funeral of former President Shehu Shagari and several other notable figures during his tenure, often sending representatives instead. Similarly, Olusegun Obasanjo did not attend President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s funeral, yet this did not spark widespread condemnation.

In contrast, Peter Obi was in Ilorin attending the 2nd Annual Colloquium in honor of Professor Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia, where he made a public call for national inclusion and regional equity—a topic central to his political vision. This was not a leisurely outing or a celebration, but a thoughtful engagement on national development and political reform. Choosing to attend a policy forum over a symbolic funeral is not a sign of insensitivity, but a reflection of his values: action over performance, and dialogue over optics.

Moreover, it must be said that Buhari’s legacy remains deeply polarizing. While some revere him, many Nigerians—especially the youth—remember his tenure for widespread insecurity, rising poverty, suppression of dissent, economic hardship, and ethnic divisions. For Peter Obi, a politician who has built his reputation on reform, transparency, and progressive ideals, attending Buhari’s funeral could have sent confusing signals to his supporters and the public. Leaders must be cautious about the company they keep, even in death, as appearances can contradict their core messages.

It is also important to note that Peter Obi has never shown contempt or disregard for the North. His selection of a respected Northerner, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, as his running mate, along with his consistent outreach and engagement with Northern communities, prove that his commitment to unity goes beyond gestures—it is built into his politics. He has visited the North repeatedly, engaged in constructive dialogue, and maintained respect for its people and culture. His absence from a funeral should not erase years of bridge-building.

Furthermore, the comparison of Buhari to Ahmadu Bello, as suggested by Reno Omokri, is flawed. Ahmadu Bello is remembered for developmental leadership, inclusion, and vision. Buhari’s legacy, however, is mired in allegations of nepotism, mismanagement, and human rights abuses. It is disingenuous to expect leaders to honor both with the same reverence.

The North, and indeed Nigerians at large, are politically mature and can distinguish between tokenism and principled leadership. It would be unwise to assume that a funeral appearance determines loyalty to a region. The North remembers actions, not just optics—and Peter Obi’s actions consistently reflect his vision of a united, just, and progressive Nigeria.

In sum, Obi’s decision not to attend Buhari’s funeral was a conscious, strategic, and principled choice, not a sign of indifference. His commitment to national unity, inclusion, and responsible leadership remains evident in his public conduct. Leadership must be measured by consistency of values—not just presence at ceremonies.

Lastly I say this.

A True Leader Will Walk The Right Path Even If He Walks Alone. Obi has made A bold statement.

panafreports:
He is working hard to ensure Tinubu wins his re-election. Obi knows what he's doing...
Is a game..
Only the political deep thinkers can unravel his strategy.
Do not ne surprised when he cross to APC before 2031
Is that the same game Obi played in 2023 with 100% votes from five SE states for ebilokan indirectly, after Wike kicked the politically naive talkative out of PDP?

jameshankss:
Arguing that Obi’s presidential bid would only work in favour of Tinubu, Soludo said, “Indeed, if I were Asiwaju Tinubu, I would even give Peter Obi money as someone heading one of the departments of his campaign, because Obi is making Tinubu’s pathway to victory much easier by indirectly pulling down PDP.”

Obi, according to Soludo, would only deplete the votes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pave the path for an APC victory.

He stated, “The current fleeting frenzy, if not checked, will cost Ndigbo dearly for years. The South-east has the lowest number of votes of any region, but it is also the only region where the presidential race might be a four-way race (it is a two-way race in the other five regions) thereby, ensuring that our votes won’t count in the making of the next president of Nigeria.

I wonder what happened to him to have failed to show up at the burial even though he is in the country, his team are doing a really bad job.
This is a man that has literally made the North his second home immediately after the 2023 elections, going from one state to another donating boreholes and breaking Ramadan fast in mosques. He was literally begging to visit Benue after herdsmen attacks but for the Governor who refused him. He was in ilorin last week where he was advocating that the coalition zone its ticket to the south. he was also in Jos this past Thursday where he visited some Islamic clerics who wore him an Hausa attire.. After all, he has taken it as a past time to be paying condolences to victims of attacks and the bereaved without giving a hoot about what people say about him. Why then did he fail to attend this crucial burial that seems to be at the very top of it all?.

Weree they friends or associates for Obi to suddenly show up at his funeral. Pls you guys should rest.

Bayo Onanuga , tinubu's spokesman has written a scathing article on buhari.

Reno did not see that one.

Any average northerner with a brain would know that tinubu does not like buhari one bit.
And for good reason to be honest.

Arranging state burial for late president buhari is what any president would have done. It's performative and very obvious.
Even atiku or obi would have done it if there were in tinubu's shoes.
Re: 2027: Forget Northern Votes – Reno Tackle Obi's Absence At Buhari's Burial by CSTRR: 9:24am On Jul 16, 2025
The average northerner should be more concerned with how has tinubu improved their living standard.

Giving buhari state burial is not an achievement.

2027, Only GOD CAN REMOVE TINUBU. Look at what he did in 2023 and came out strong do you expect him to give it up easily?
He doesn't need whole North but needs some northern elite to do few work.
You will understand that rigging is superior than voting in 2027.
SEBI IT IS STILL SAME INEC POCKET BY HIM.
ABI RIVERS PEOPLE VOTE TINUBU BEFORE He WON?
you are very correct with your analysis but a determined rugged opposition can uproot him,it will just need fire for fire

Northerners are suffering more from the hardship induced by APC governments of Buhari and Tinubu.
Reno Omokri is still mocking the northerners here as if northerners are all ethnic bigots.

He was invited to a traditional ruler in yorubaland burial , he wasn't invited to buhari burial which is sponsored by tinubu.both events happned the same time and he attended the one he was invited and welcomed .

this denial of invitation was clearly and roundly a state sponsor policy and tinubu penalty for anyone who mistakingly invite peter is sack, jail and in some cases ,maybe death to that official

He should gate crash ? And get arrested ?
Obi will visit when he gets clearance and is invited .

Cry all you want
so they have to invite you to the burial of a national figure, being a national figure yourself?are you listening to yourself?

So Peter Obi will go and face Tinubu in 2027 alone. You must be dreaming. Results will be ready a month to election. They won't give him up to 2 million votes. My own is that Tinubu should be out of there.
