Many people remain in perpetual poverty under the guise of job security. That's is why a lot of smart people avoid civil service. Except you are a political appointee, elected official, or lucky to be absorbed into grade A agency
But somebody has to do it. If every body play smart like u suggest,we suffer more. We just need to look deeper

A professor can not have 2m as salary, this means education alone can not make you a millioner. Too poor for a nation like Nigeria.
Let's get real...!

How many Millionaires do we churn out of Nigeria yearly compared to our population?!!

Look at your GDP for starters... Take a look at the minimum wage and average employment rate.

The odds of getting wealthy via legitimate means in Nigeria is almost nonexistent, infact it is absolutely impossible tbh.

This has nothing to do with education... This is because of corruption and bad leadership.

Even in healthcare, how many doctors and pharmacists are Millionaires?!! How many Lawyers earn well?!!

This why I want to switch to finance/hr side of things. I have my teaching certification TRCN. But I don't think I will further my career in education unless I will use education to Japa. I felt I wasted my time on the educational path. Anything I will do on education is to Japa. Not to use it to work. I will concentrate on Finance/HR/Marketing/Business Development and Administration. I can't continue to live like this. My life must be better.I Will no longer pursue my PGDE and MEd anymore. Am done. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
I just bagged MSc degree from ui, hoping to do my PhD and look for a lecturing job.Hmmm, look at what i am trying to go into.

You are wrong. Companies like CreditDirect Limited, a foremost finance company in Nigeria even recognised by the Federal Government's CreditCorp offers loan to civil servants at 4.5% monthly. Calculate this per annum. You don't need to take my word, just go and verify.
Fews weeks ago, I engaged a Marina bank staff about their car loan facility

Is Credit Direct a Bank??

You are wrong. I took a 36 month loan last year as a public servant. Interest rate per month was 5% and I took over 650k loan, my total repayment was put at a little above 2m....and I was paying more than 63k monthly.
Thankfully, I got a little breakthrough and was able to liquidate the loan in March this year.

It's not easy been a public servant in Nigeria o
Definitely not a commercial bank.

You probably patronised a non-bank microfinance institution who are well known for very notorious interest rates.

Aswears. Use your PhD and enter the professional side of things not education. You can do professional certifications to make you stand out in the market place. And at the same time you are doing your own thing.

I don't think any professor working under state or federal government earns up to a million in this country except he or she has something else doing

It is a sad situation but i will also play devil's advocate....

Why can't Nigerian Professors have inventions, patents and discoveries like their peers in developed countries?

Malaria, no cure. Electricity, no fix. Must we wait for Whites to fix all our problems?

Oh, Government doesn't fund them well..... But we have seen billions looted by Government, Institutions and Individuals through TETFUND.

What did they do with what they received? A Science Parastatal went to Senate and listed Kilishi processing as their major achievement.

The blunt reality is that, we Africans can not see running abroad as the ONLY solution to our problems.

Japan and Germany were practically annihilated after World War 2 and they stayed back to fix their countries over time.

Sad that South Africa looks VERY different from most parts of Black Africa simply because the Whites only left direct power in 1994 (3 decades ago)

Fixing Africa is a collective responsibility. Why are Blacks at the very bottom? Whites, Yellows, Browns all see us as inferior to even their pets.
Most of these professors are only in name, how they have benefitted Nigerians is beyond me to comprehend.

But in our country today, fraudsters and even amateur yahoo boys are driving expensive cars at every outing.
Why then should well educated guys and professors ride bicycles, or come and be walking and jogging??
Please uncle, don't tell me that their reward is still somewhere in heaven.
Their reward is a longer lifespan and healthspan.Life expectancy in Nigeria is only 54 and most slump and die while driving.People should walk more and those who walk more, live longer. Most Nigerians above 30 are pot bellied,a sign of ill health.Don' t be moved by people driving"expensive cars".Cars are meant for mobility and nothing more.

At least, this is a matter of choice not a matter of affordability. Many professors walk in Nigeria because they cannot afford a car not because they choose to.
No,it is needed to improve their health. We should all move, jog or run more How many adult Nigerians, say above 30 years, both the ones living here or abroad can run a 10 kilometers or marathon?

Nigeria professors are poorly paid unlike their counterparts in south africa and other african countries, it's really a pity.

Fews weeks ago, I engaged a Marina bank staff about their car loan facility and here is the highlight of the terms

1. Interest rate is 41% p.a
2. Duration of 48months ie 4yrs
3. Additional 2% management fee etc
4. Loan amount is N15million
5. They would provide the dealer I must buy from

By implication, at the end of 4yrs, borrower would have paid 164% in interest aside other charges equivalent to N39.6million principal & interest

It becomes very disheartening when we compare with other clime where one could get 13% interest rate while income could afford comfortable repayment plan.

At this rate, a N500k monthly earner cannot afford a car. Now imagine entrepreneur who genuinely require capital to fund a viable business plan

I am of the opinion that is beyond just the banking system but a widespread failure in the Nigeria system as a whole.

(Images from X user)
164% interest after 4yrs is not correct even if annual interest rate is 41% because interest is calculated on the outstanding balance of principal.
