Please I need your inputs, can I transport a new car from Lagos to East without plate number. A car that is newly imported (foreign used) but yet to het a license plate. I need suggestions. And if not, how long would it take me to get a lagos license plate?

It takes about 3 working days to get a lagos plate. Contact pattybf. Search for the name on nairaland.
Without plates, you will be cannon fodder for the npf. With plates, you only have to worry about customs.
Make sure the details in the reg are correct and complete especially chassis number, engine number, colour etc.
Make copies of the papers. Do not ever hand over the originals to anybody, never.
Get your safety kits too such as your fire extinguisher, caution sign (2), spare tyre, wheel spanner and jack, first aid kit, spare fan belt, hydraulic, transmission oil, water (one liter of each should suffice). Make sure you have a genuine drivers licence too (never hand over original to anybody).

I think you should get a car dealer in your area to help with it. Most cars in the country land in Lagos, and I'm sure they don't reg them before taking them to their respective places.

even with the number plate, they will still disturb very well because it's a newly registered plate but I can help you deliver to your doorstep anywhere you are in the country. I have been to eke otu, holy ghost, parklene hospital to deliver cars to clients so I am just a phone call away.

I got a tokunbo car in Lagos in May.

And it was driven down to the East without number plates.

Although the driver is a soldier. I guess that's why he wasn't disturbed.

But make sure the custom papers are original and complete o. Because customs no dey hear say I be soldier.

Be ready to settle the hawks called custom, police, soldiers on the road. To rattle you, they might tell you your custom papers are fake and you didn't pay correct money.

Yes you can if you have all the documents and male sure you hire a soldier follow you all the way from Lagos to the east, robber may hijack that car from you on the way so try get an uniform man.

Use a car dealer to move the vehicle. They have special number plates for transporting cars. Once the car reaches its destination the number plate is removed.

Newly imported(damage) cars pass here ilorin on daily basis from Lagos. Those car dealer mostly have army who escort those cars to it destination. If he have all his document he only have to settle those men in black on the road.

Once your custom papers are complete, you have about 21 days from date of landing to transport the car without registration. However, considering how the country is and the hunger in town, without having a plate number will attract so many stops and settlement.
If you are not in a hurry, you can actually drive it down to the East without ‘forceful’ settlement. They will delay you, and be checking all those stuffs some posted above, for example, Fire extinguisher etc.
So, your choice!

You can look for a logistics/shipping company and transport it with their containers to your location in the East.. Never drive it interstate without a number plate.

In Onitsha, Aba, Nnewi, containers of cars are offloaded everyday without number plates.

You can also contact someone in the East to help you get the number plates and send it down to you. You just send the car details to him or her for registration.

Lagos number plates are now being used to tax citizens with frivolous fines and generate revenue Gestapo-style.

They hide their traffic signs saying '60km/h' on highways like Ikeja and Third mainland bridge, when you drive 61 km/h their cameras take the picture of your number plate and send you a N60,000 fine bill..When you go to renew your papers, they ask you to pay the fine.

Sometimes, their 'revenue boys' even remove the traffic signs altogether and wait for you to enter the trap like one way roads or BRT lanes so they can extort you.

Google and check Objectv media on YouTube or TikTok and see how Lagos swindles it's citizens and residents.

Right now, getting a Lagos number plate is setting yourself up for extortion. It is not a wise financial decision.

The major thing is to make sure the customs papers are genuine. Visit any customs office in Lagos for the verification. It takes just few hours. They will issue you a document showing that the papers have been verified and are genuine.

With this you can move your vehicle even without a plate number. The only issue is with police and their delays, they can't accuse you of any violation or infractions.

I have always driven all the cars I bought without plate number from Lagos to Abuja to Kaduna, smoothly.

Have a driver take it down if you don't want to drive it yourself. There is no problem as long as the Customs papers are genuine and complete. It will cost you the same with or without license plate number. The police and Customs on the highway can detect a new license plate and will treat the car the same as the one without a license plate. On the journey down to the SE, you will definitely see many vehicles without license plates going your direction too. It is common

But in all, money must change hands graciously or by extortion at different checkpoints. Be ready with your N200 denominations. Ogun State will be your biggest headache. The Customs at Benin Bypass must harass you.

I just bought my own yesterday from Apapa and I drove it down to OYO state without plate. The custom officer only checked the paper and nothing else. Since you're driving to a farther place I will recommend you get a plate in Lagos because there will be many police and custom checks before you reach your destination.
