Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general election, has revealed what late former President Muhammadu Buhari told him during his campaign.

Obi, who paid a condolence visit to Buhari’s family in Daura on Wednesday, came third in the 2023 presidential election.

The former Anambra governor consulted Buhari, who was the then President of Nigeria, to inform him of his desire to succeed him.

Speaking to the press after the condolence visit in Daura, Katsina State, Obi recalled his conversation with the former President.

“I had the opportunity of meeting him while I was campaigning. And I remember his words, ‘Please care for the poor Nigerians’. That I can still remember. And I believe he did his best within his capacity,” Obi said.

The former President was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday.

DAILY POST reported on Sunday that Buhari passed on in London, the United Kingdom, at 82 years.

The Katsina born politician served as a military Head of State and democratically elected President of Nigeria.

One thing that is clear is that leaders who are loud before getting into power are usually limited.

Some cannot explain how they transformed their states and tackled poverty. So they keep citing examples from Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

Buhari said take care of the poor. But how should that be done? The test of leadership is the ideas. We know we have to solve the power problem. How? We need to pull people out of poverty. How?

Stop this narrative! Rare breed in what sense? As a former soldier or former president? You guys are the ones pushing a false narrative about someone who couldn’t achieve anything as a military leader and a democratic one!
