Lagos Is Renaming Street With Igbo Names To Yoruba by DenreleDave(op): 5:56am On Jul 17, 2025
I don't know what led to this but this is going to far...... Street named igbos are not threat to yorubas and Nigerians at large. .. The problem of the common citizen is not street name.....

As a Yoruba man, I condemn this action by Lagos state..... Let's face the economic hardship and insecurity that is threatening the lives of the people..

Igbos are not threat to the nation, igbo street are not threat to Lagos. ...

Anybody can name their street as they want, that should not be anyone's headache.

Policies do change from time to time, including policies involving land occupation, encroachment etc

That is the ethnocentric politics Bola Tinubu and his Lagos APC have brought to the Nigerian politics and yet some people praise him.

They have even gone as far as exporting and celebrating same in far away Ghana, shows how jittery they are about the Southeastern people who poses no threat to them nor anybody, it is well.

It will soon come to an end, 2027 is no longer far

Solve what precisely? A "problem" that only exists in your head?

Go and check well, the Street names were changed from Yoruba to Igbo names out of unpatriotism by some Yorubas in the LGAs in Lagos.
There were no Streets in Lagos with Igbo names prior to the 80s' and 90s'. Go and verify.

Lagos was former capital of the country. It's just like saying Abuja will start renaming it's street to the indigenous ones.
People be so tribalistic and then turn around to gaslight others as being tribalistic.

Ajeromi Ifelodun LG can decide to rename thier street, is there right, they have broken no law.

Abakaliki street was renamed in Anambra by Obiano. There's no big deal in this

I think this is a welcome idea, Lagos is a Yoruba Land, even if some streets are named igbo, it should be for extremely important reasons and not be a norm.

Immigration shouldn't errode the heritage and culture of a place

Pettiness and insecurity of the highest level from the Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA.

Why not go change Ozumba Mbadiwe to Lateef Salami or Nnamdi Azikiwe way to Mustapha Sego.

Wether it happened last year or centuries ago, the big question here is, is it good?
If Igbos should start doing the same thing to yorubas will you (mynd44) see it as a welcome development?
Keep your tribalism one side and face the fact.

..In a normal world
, nörmal societies...streets are named after people that contribute immensely to their immediate environment & communities..

..In Nigeria..because of the hatred some people have for others..naming a street has become an issue of tr:"iba;:lism, bi&€;gotry & parap;,&oism.. grin grin grin

...you will see dem giving mundane excuses for their ha;:tred..

grin grin grin

This is the kind of news that goes viral on Nairaland: Igbo Vs Yoruba e-fight. It seems Nairaland will just die a natural death the moment it stops promoting tribalism because this forum doesn't hold any Intrinsic value anymore.
