It's funny how narratives turn to myths and legends.

What was good about the presidency of Umar Musa Yar'Adua if not the fact that he died in office?

I know say na my people go full that page.

Read a lot about his father. Unfortunately, i was never around Nigeria all through his tenure. But I have never read anyone seriously talking bad about the man. That says a lot. I don't know whether this is because Nigerians have been so pulverised by their tyrannical presidents, so often that they have now lowered the bar to the minimum, or that the man was actually good. Which way, one thing that is very self evident is that until Tinubu, Nigerias presidents without any military background have proven to be more humane and people oriented in their policies when juxtaposed with the ex Generals that have messed up this democracy.
Hindsight has contributed immensely to the current positive perception of Yaradua's tenure.

During his actual tenure however, Yaradua was criticized by Nigerians a lot because of the following:

- he was mostly ill and out of country for medical attention for prolonged periods leading to general perception that the economy was slow due to his absenteeism.

- In fact, people started criticizing OBJ for handing Nigeria over to an unfit president.

- His tenure was taken over by his wife Turai and the Cabal. In fact it was under Yaraduas tenure that the term Cabal first became a popular character in Nigeria's presidency.

Nonetheless, Nigerians appreciated Yaradua in two major areas:

a. He reduced Petrol price to 69 Naira/litre
b. He granted amnesty to Niger Delta agitators which was a brilliant move in resolving the ND conflict

This is a balanced accurate view of events as they happened at the time.

I wish that late former President Umar Musa Yar’adua was alive and lasted till after 8 years of his tenure. He was honestly the best Nigeria had.

Omor the way some of you enjoy lying to yourself in this platform ee it's so funny to be very honest.

They were showing him fake love just to justify their animalistic attitude towards Buhari. We know where majority of them came from. They were sad because Bubu dealt with their terrorist leader.

Buhari was equally a very good man and God will equally grant him eternal rest.

Yar'Adua was too ill to take charge/responsibility for anything during his tenure; his wife Turai, a several of his close friends and a few holdovers from the OBJ period were the ones who ruled.

And it wasn't as if they performed so well but thankfully they were too hesitant, too new to the game to achieve some actual and lasting Nigerian-style damage grin

Many Nigerians are very easily deceived and have short memories. The same Yar'Addua that people were accusing of high-level of tribalism during his tenure, high-handedness and with cabal members calling the shots even before he fell ill, are whom they were now praising as being the best.

I agree that his stint in office was short and so we may not be able to perfectly judge his administration on work done, so best on what?? Because he reportedly sent letter to the NASS to transfer power to Jonathan and his aides blocked it??
My brother it is baffling!

The only thing I remember that Yaradua achieved was declaring that the election that brought him in was flawed.

That is the statement that many gullible and impressionable Nigerians are holding onto and labelling him the best President ever!

Other than that, what did Yaradua achieve?

But may his soul rest in peace!

You see?

Nigerians are not people full of bile and bitterness

We just want good governance and affordability of life's basic

God bless OBJ, Yar Adua and GEJ

The rest can go and buy their blessing from lNEC and judiciary

Which Yaradua again. Nigerians and hypocrisy!
This same group of people supporting bad and dangerous governance in Nigeria. Supporters of APC and Tinubu disasters you are 100% one of them here on nairaland forum. And today you are condemning a good man like Yara adua that many Nigerians loves so much. Why do you people hate Nigeria progress so much ?

"Your father was the best president" Nigerians shower prayers on son of late former President Umar Musa Yar’adua as he weds.
Nigerians have a very short memory. Same Y'aradua that was insulted and mocked during his illness and even after his death. Same man that was labelled Baba Go Slow during and after his tenure has suddenly become the darling of Nigerians because of the hate for one man. Nigeria might yet celebrate PMB and even BAT one day soon in the not too distant future.

There is a reason why Obasanjo choose hin as his successor. The only area I have any issue with him was him cancelling the sale of refineres done by Obasanjo when he was leaving.

Apart from that,He was a great leader. I mean dude even accepted the face that the election that brought him in wasnt perfect and he together with his vice started the process of a better electoral system far better than the election of 2007

maybe we have to groom this man so hopefully in a couple of years he will become our president because true leadership quality is in their DNA.

In as much as you are trying to defend Tinubu. Has Tinubu come out and say that the election that brought him to power was a fraud? That he didn't win. But Yar'Adua said it to comfirm his honesty...so don't twist it

I’m sure he won the election.

The process was not perfect that was just it
Is this the kind of difference in attitude towards corruption of different types that ensures we are the worst race among humans, eager to export our resources and ourselves in japa bragging, including VIPs dying abroad because they stole money that should employ well paid medical workers and equip medical facilities adequately?

TheBedWench:
The one-drop rule is a social and legal principle of racial classification that was historically prominent in the United States in the 20th century. It asserted that any person with even one ancestor of black ancestry ("one drop" of black blood)[1][2] is considered black (Negro or colored in historical terms).

This concept became codified into the law of some states in the early 20th century. It was associated with the principle of "invisible blackness" that developed after the long history of racial interaction in the South, which had included the hardening of slavery as a racial caste and later segregation. It is an example of hypodescent, the automatic assignment of children of a mixed union between different socioeconomic or ethnic groups to the group with the lower status, regardless of proportion of ancestry in different groups.[3]

The one-drop rule is defunct in law in the United States and was never codified into federal law.

Stop!
Honestly then Nigeria was not too advanced in electoral process, no digital verifications and hard to prove rigging except eye witnesses.

No administration met a corrupt free system, so which magic would he do to rid it immediately in less than 2years ?
He was president for almost three years- until May 2010 when he died.

Why take on a job you can't do well in? How does your lame attempt at rationalising the corruption of his administration help us from becoming better than our current lowest of the low among the human race, that births children to make other races continuously better than ours huh

The migrant crisis in Libya and the Nigeria experience

The drive for survival and for greener pastures has continued to force millions of West African young men and women to gamble with death in attempts to cross over to Europe and other parts of the world. This quest to escape poverty, hunger, unemployment and insecurity, among other reasons, caused a major segment of Nigeria’s population to seek alternatives for better livelihood prospects for themselves and their families.

Those seeking economic survival see irregular migration as the best alternative, given the difficulty and resources involved in migrating through regular and legitimate routes. In many instances, very few of the original number who set out on these dangerous journeys live to tell their stories. While many regularly drown in the Mediterranean Sea, many also die in the deserts, and others are sold as slaves in a modern slave market.

Most of the victims of this trade are from West Africa. Many of them leave home with expectations of getting to Europe and other destinations perceived to have better economic prospects for them, but they end up in the slave merchant nets in North Africa. The victims are put in camps and sold in open markets in Libya, while the international community watches in silence. The geographical location of Libya renders it a transit route for migrants journeying to Italy and many other parts of Europe.

In as much as Yaradua tried his best in the short time he held power we will only judge him for the short period he spent on power maybe he could have been the worst if he had spent more than that, Buhari too when he came on power bailed out all the states that are insolvent that couldn't pay salaries and asked their workers to be taking a day or two days off duties, he also maintain fuel subsidies today some people see him as the worst president.

Yar'adua was a good man, but saying he was the best for only spending 2 years in office is vague. Olusegun Obasanjo made more positive impacts than any other Nigerian leader since 1999.
compare the short time he spent with the short time that Tinubu has spent

Yaradua is the best thing that happened to our generation
