No, you don't need to have MTN sim on the phone. Step down your network to 2G and try the process again or you can do it on another different phone and then insert the 9mobile sim back to your phone.

I just discovered you can't, I discovered this post today and immediately I tried the process OP shared up there it worked. Then I proceeded to send PORT to 3233, guess what you can't send out SMS. Will give them few weeks and see, if I still can't, will email NCC and report them.

Send an email, addressing 9mobile then put consumer@ncc.gov.ng in copy and watch how you will be attended to or you do jungle justice and go on X to drag them, but as it is 9mobille dont even have shame again

You can now move it to 3G or 4G or 5G depending on available network in your location and your phone capacity.

Choose the MTN option with forbidden and you will be connected to 9mobile.

You can try it on different phones, if it all shows "insert sim" you will need to do a simswap as your sim might be damaged.

Exactly, I don't see why anyone should want to port. It just creates unnecessary drama when everybody starts trooping to other network's offices because "they want to port"

And, this deal between MTN and 9mobile has been in the works for long just to make sure everything will work fine when they finally roll it out for the public. With time (and conscious effort from 9mobile), all of their customers will start enjoying again.

They sent me a message on how to connect to the MTN network sometimes last week when I mailed them to help me rollover my data plan but I ignored it because the line was not in any phone. I didn't go about it till last night and ever since then it's been smooth, hitch-free browsing, I didn't even need to restart my phone. Something I've not experienced on the network in years! I hope it remains like this. The over of 20gb regular data and 40gb night data they wiped off when their network was unavailable still day pain sha

MTN is also using some of 9mobile's infrastructure so there's really no ulterior motive for them to "messup" because it could backfire.

Been trying to use my card but I couldn't because the otp doesn't arrive. I can't even use ussd. Seems the roaming is not working fully.
