The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has rejected an application by Durban businessman Farhad Hoomer to register a new political party known as the Islamic State of Africa.

Hoomer, who was once at the centre of a now withdrawn terrorism case, announced his plans to start a new party last month, that would push for Sharia Law in South Africa.

The commission says the CEO turned down the application on three grounds.

They say Hoomer failed to submit sufficient details of the registered voters supporting its formation- which should be 300 and above.

The commission says the party only published a notice of formation in a newspaper with limited circulation - not sufficient to create awareness of the application.

Officials say they received over 200 objections to the application.

In 2018, Hoomer and others were arrested in connection with a fatal knife attack at a mosque in Verulam (Durban) - and with several attempted bombing incidents around the city.

But those charges were dropped.

In 2022, he was accused by the US for leading an ISIS cell in South Africa - which last month- Hoomer denied being a part of.

The government should stop entertaining this guy, he is clearly not joking about his Sharia ambitions and with that olo*sho constitution we signed,the useless courts might grant him his wish one day. Yes,we found it ridiculous and funny before and everyone was mocking him....but if he still has the audacity to attempt to register a political party ,that means he needs to be put on the spotlight now and this issue circulated among the local communities ,so that they'll know what he is about . And he is very big on philanthropy, so people probably think he is just some harmless religious business man who cares for his community . A very dangerous character.
