This one is now a tailor, like first class in physics, now a tailor 😟😟😟...
If you get a first class, first thing find your way to where the market is. Whether abroad or Lagos or Port Harcourt. He needs to write GRE ASAP and get on the internet to apply

Never be far from where information is. Information is power. There are many foreign universities that will give this type of guy a fully funded scholarship especially given he is a STEM guy

The US is prioritizing exceptional talents in form of EB visas nowadays

There was an Ebonyi guy who has first class in Mathematics and was doing hoe and cutlass farming before getting a scholarship from Michael Taiwo

Interesting.

What changed?

You used to be on the other side
You will not survive in these streets if you're an eternal bull or bear.

When the underlying conditions change, act accordingly.

To be clear, I do not discourage saving in $.
But Ibime's call-to-action on the basis of one indicator, admittedly a reliable historic indicator, does not capture the full picture.

Cardoso invited the FPIs to buy TBills at almost 30% yield last year.
That was responsible for the heavy inflows contributing to FX stability later in the year.
It has remained at the current 1500-1600 band, which if you recall is where I recommended Cardi B set up a defensive perimeter.
As opposed to pushing for another hopeless Crusade to a sub-1000 rate.

The FPIs have been cashing out this year as Cardoso signals an end to the bonanza. July rate is around 16%.
That's responsible for the higher-than-average CBN outflows in the first half of this year.
It is technically an intervention, but when you look under the hood, this is different.

In addition, fundamentals are markedly improved.
No more subsidies. Balance of payment surplus is increasing.
We just hit a six-year high on foreign investment inflows.
The geopolitics portend a topsy-turvy near future so there is no danger of a steep drop in oil prices.

Saving in $ is always great advice in Nigeria.
But the premise is just as important as the advice.
The declining reserve juxtaposed with higher CBN outflows is a red herring.
Save in $ (and invest your $ holdings) because it is a smart thing to do.
Not because of the prognostication of an imminent collapse of the rate spurred by the CBN overextending itself.

I don't think this is about Nigeria killing it's young ones at all.

Despite how Labour market cast reach, I believe if u hold a first class with CGPA 4.91/5.00 and u are jobless few years after graduation, then u are the problem or maybe u don't really fancy paid employment Sha.

Where was he when big companies and multinationals like Dangote, the big 4s, Banks, oil and gas companies, etc were conducting their graduate trainees? Nobody go come use job beg him for house because he get first class na ; he must apply first begore employment comes

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of young graduates just waste time on social media gossip blogs, TikToks, etc when they should have all ears and eyes open for job opportunities on LinkedIn and other job focused platforms.

As a first class graduate sef, right from school u supposed dey active looking for job opportunities make u no go shame Ur class of degree with joblessness after few years of graduation.

The excerpt below from the article vividly described how Buhari frauded his way in 2015 into becoming the worst president to have ruled this country till date.

The author of the article really set leg for those trying to whitewash Buhari's image with this blunt but fair assessment of his misrule.

The fact that people actually defended Buhari while he was implementing these ill-advised policies and governance by nostalgia will always "muze" me sha. Like people actually defended Buhari's closure of boarder. cry

The thing is, a lot of them live in states that don't have much opportunities. Most of the good job opportunities in this country are in Lagos and Abj. Ph doesn't really have jobs like that if you ask me.

In most of these states outside Lagos, your grade doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme of things if you don't have connections. Hunger go wipe you and that your first class if you no get connections. You probably think all other states are like Lagos in the jobs opportunities regard. None of them choose to be jobless, there are simply no good opportunities in their states that they can get without connection.

I have followed the guy's comments on people trying to link him up now that his story is out and his present condition from his story isn't out of lack of trying..

The guy sounds like he's been prepared but has lacked opportunities..I wish him the best anyway..

I can reason with the school of thought that he resides outside Lagos.

But nothing good comes easy. I have met people who had to travel down to Lagos from their home state to interview for jobs In Lagos without knowing anybody and they got the job. They took the risk and got the reward.

If u carry the kind of grade, u no supposes dey limit urself and hope like every other person that things will fall in place. U must be willing to go the extra mile to stand out.

I never said it's straight.

That mathematics guy, I doubt he had a smart phone while he was observing his NYSC. I saw a picture of the guy when he was interviewed on the farm and u can tell that guy has a whole lot to deal with that would make him have visibility issues.

This tailor guy is actually a tech savvy guy that is active on Twitter 24/7; he even uses Twitter to promote his business and that should tell u he's smart and he can't play the lack of opportunity card bro.

This year alone I've seen not less than 10 graduate trainee adverts from top companies. I believe he should have seen same except he doesn't know where to look.

You have to consider that a lot of people are not interested in going to Lagos. Unfortunately for them, that is where the jobs are.

Crazy thing is, the skills needed for a first class and the skills needed for a job search are completely different.

For the first class, you have the course credits right from the first year and if you stick to the syllabus religiously, you will be rewarded for it

Job hunting no get scheme of work. Most people get opportunities by strength of their networks.

How are jobs advertised these days?
Back in the day na to get Tuesday guardian and copy all the ads and then send your cv. A person with a first already has his foot in any door. Check every advert. The problem is that if you are not also among hustlers you may not know what to do.

If you grow up in a civil service family in a civil service state all you know is waiting - which is not how it works.

Nowadays Most companies advertise their vacancies on the internet, So you don't really need connections beyond internet connection

Then get into test taking mode. The part I agree with you is that most aptitude tests are not academic tests, they are not testing your indepth knowledge of Physics chemistry etc
They are usually IQ test, basic Maths that you can pass with JS3 knowledge, Quantitative aptitude and Verbal aptitude, Current affairs and General knowledge
In my opinion Any Sharp SS3 student will pass an aptitude test. I

To get a First class, in many cases you need to be very studious and focused on a specific narrow topic. I will say First class test your depth of knowledge while Aptitude tests test your breadth of knowledge (How broad you are). If you are not on it yet, Any first class after school should start practicing with GRE, SAT GMAT sample questions

Some first class effico don't know who the current Speaker of Nigeria is, The problem with this is that current affairs is not something you can read and plan for, Its a test of your inquisitiveness in current affairs from childhood

Some people also have this mindset that you cannot get a job if you don't know people who will hand you to the recruiting Manager and just employ you. This is not True for multinationals

Nowadays most Companies post their job openings on their LinkedIn pages, the HR staff of companies share openings on their personal linkedin pages and vacancies/career blogs post those openings on their websites.

In the last 3 months I've seen several banks, Dangote, BUA, big 4's, capital market players, etc posting their graduate trainee openings online.

A diligent graduate should be looking out for all these openings...... If not, they will keep saying there are no jobs anywhere.

I job hunted in the days of Tuesday Guardian. There was a guy Unilorin grad who also came to Lagos from the hinterland to jobhunt. Like 4 of us we will contribute to do Free readers club at Newspaper stand and write all the application/vacancies down then contribute Tfare to send 1 of us to VI to drop paper resumes on the Thursday/Friday following the Tuesday Guardian. We will rotate who travels every week

Every company will want to interview a First class grad. It now depends on your testing and interviewing skills
Some First class can be so much into books while job testing/interviewing requires some social skills

The embolden is a fact that graduates, irrespective of class don't understand or plan for.

While your result may help you pass employment tests, preparing and selling yourself during an interview require a different type of skillset.

The bold is one thing I dislike most and always try to diabuse the mind of young people so as not to defeat themselves even before the challenge starts.

The problem some young graduates face is that they don't have anybody to mentor/guide them ; especially the ones who don't have an elder bro or sis who has taken the career path before them.

I was discussing this with a friend recently; he was lamenting how not having any of his older bro following the career path made it extremely difficult for him.

But bro, don't you consider what will happen if all the graduates in this country migrate to Lagos because of jobs? The implications will be severe.
Something has to be done about the other states not creating enough job opportunities to cater for their population. Even the small good paying jobs that they have, it's mostly by connection and hardly by merit.
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by TemporaryHansel(m): 9:13pm On Jul 17, 2025
Also as for job vacancies being posted online. In most cases, those companies only publish those vacancies online to fulfil all righteousness oh. They already have people they intend to employ. Of course, I'm not talking about Lagos here. Lagos is an outlier.
