Well, there's nothing wrong with naming the University of Maiduguri after Buhari, but if it were me, there are 3 things that I would have named after him. 1) The Second Niger Bridge: So many governments have promised to build it (Shagari, Obasanjo and Jonathan for example) and failed, it should be named after him to acknowledge the fact that he actually built it. 2) Katsina Train Station: The Kano-Maradi rail line had been proposed by previous governments, but it was his government that actually started construction. Buhari was also from Katsina State and it would be perfect if the Katsina Train Station is named after him. 3) The NDDC Headquarters building in Port-Harcourt: The land was acquired in 1996 (when the agency was known as OMPADEC), but nothing was built on it. The agency continued to operate from rented quarters. In fact, rather than connect the old headquarters to the national grid, they kept buying diesel for its generators. It was Buhari's government that built the new headquarters and he commissioned it in 2021 (25 years after the land was bought), so it should be named after him. Must we name everything after failed politician? What happened to naming music greats like Fela, Davido, wizkid, flavour, burna boy who has done excellently well to put Nigeria name on global music power house? Stop naming the nations infrastructure built with tax payers money after criminal politicians that has done nothing but run the economy of the country aground. Even if tinubu name those things that you mentioned after buhari , it won't still make tinubu to inherit buhari 12 million votes. Atiku and El-rufai have both inherited buhari northern bloc votes so you guys should stop this eye service . 19 Likes |

What a man Buhari was. He commissioned a lot of projects and named none after himself. He rebuffed the moves by Southeast governors to name the second Niger Bridge after him. He even rejected it when Umahi went ahead to name the Ebonyi International Airport after him. This is in huge contrast to Tinubu who has been naming every new and existing National Monument after himself. Infact, his first commissioned project was "The World's Largest Portrait", a portrait of himself on June 12th, one year after his swearing-in. Buhari and Tinubu are not the same. 6 Likes

When Nigerian politicians fail to leave monumental legacies behind, especially in the educational sector which they wished it fails, institutions they never cared about when they were in power would be used to immortalize them, just as Bintu earlier observed. BrickDevo:   Two Federal Universities in Katsina, one established by GEJ, the one in Daura established by himself and another Federal Poly in Daura also established by PMB, but it has to go all the way to UNIMAID. The International Airport in Maiduguri is already named after Buhari. We still have a Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja, but alas, it's not enough.
