"Can he make it?"

Nobody here is God to say whether he can or not. undecided

It's up to your bro. GL to him.

I understand you are your bro, but instead of coming straight, you try to hide behind "my bro." No problem though and I know your "bro" is reading this.

Now, here's my point:
1. Tell your bro to see music as a side hustle at this time.
2. Tell him not to begin comparing himself to other artists but just stay on his lane and do his own thing.
3. Most times, so-called musicians abandon God and get carried away because they feel they've arrived. Tell your bro to walk with God and stay focused and guided.
4. For these releases, he's not there yet. It's still the same noisy, girlish, street thing—nothing new.
5. The lyrics are old fashioned—same old thing about women—no depth.
6. The beat doesn't sound unique—sort of something we're already used to.
7. Who's his role model that's currently trending in Nigeria? What makes him like the person's music? Then he should sing like that person—at least for now. Right here, his songs sound like he's coming from no known "location"—a sheep without a shepherd.
8. The visuals? Here and there! I can't really say much about them because I know it's costly to shoot good music visuals. I see one with a dark theme, that's nice.
9. Finally, tell him to take time to write his lyrics. Lyrics is number 1. He should do his research and also compare them with those of trending songs. We want to hear mature lyrics—not some elementary street thing. Let me stop here.
10. I wish him all the best.
You just said my mind too, the lyrics is so childish and that's a huge turn off for me particularly

His song would av been a hit during the time of Psquare, 2face, early days of wizkid them.

The sad thing is this generation doesnt gbadu this type of lyrics anymore.

HE SHOULD UPGRADE THAT HAPPINESS AS A SINGLE AND MAKE THE BEATS MUCH MORE MODERN.

The rest no go sale. maybe that LNMN (who still labels track with just alphabets! Haba!) can sale if he makes the rhythm to be more upstart to today's dumb auto tunes.

YOUR BROTHERS TYPE OF MUSIC GENRE HAS PASSED. let him smoke weed for a whole week and come up with something dumb and fully auto tuned and he will be BOMB.

You need to be original man. Know the purpose for making each song. Educate with your lyrics rather than singing to worship woman or her body. It’s boring.

Connect to your maker for inspiration even if it will be a worldly song , it must be unique. Entertainment only reward creativity.

Thanks for sharing your brother’s Spotify link — I checked out TegaTheKing and listened to some recent tracks like YOLO, Kpalanga, and Happiness. Here’s some honest feedback:

🎤 Vocals & Performance
Distinct tone & energy: His voice has a warm, emotive timbre that feels authentic—especially on Happiness and For You.

Room to refine delivery: A bit more control in phrasing and pitch could really elevate tracks. Occasional off-pitch moments stand out; tightening up with vocal exercises or subtle tuning could help polish his sound.

✍️ Lyrics & Songwriting
Relatable themes: Songs touch on familiar life topics—joy, purpose, introspection—which resonates with listeners.

Simplify for impact: Stripping back some lines or refining metaphors could make hooks more memorable. For example, YOLO and Kpalanga are catchy but feel like they’d benefit from more lyrical depth or unique storytelling.

🔊 Production & Beat Quality
Solid Afro-fusion vibe: The instrumentals have a good rhythm and vibe typical to Nigerian Afro-fusion—danceable but smooth.

Add texture and progression: A few more layers (percussion, pads) or dynamic shifts (breakdowns, bridges) could make tracks sound richer and less repetitive.

🎚️ Mixing & Mastering
Clear vocals: Tega’s voice comes through well in the mix, which is a strong plus.

Balance could improve: Some elements, especially low-end bass and mids, occasionally feel a bit flat or lack punch. A professional mix/master session could take it to the next level.

🌍 Market Fit & Brand Potential
Room to grow locally: With ~53 monthly listeners on Spotify, there's clear potential for his next push—especially tied to local platforms like Audiomack and YouTube.

Brand identity development: It would help to define his style more sharply—whether leaning Afrobeat, soulful pop, or Afropop—so he stands out. A consistent visual aesthetic and messaging across socials would also boost recognition.

✅ What’s Working Well

Vocals that engage emotionally and feel genuine.

Clean mixes where his voice shines through.

Lyrics with broad appeal and heart.

🎯 Areas to Focus On
1. Vocal training: Warm-ups, pitch work, consistency.

2. Song structure: Sharpen hooks, refine messaging, avoid repetition.

3. Production depth: Add instrumentation, improve mix clarity.

4. Growth strategy: Social media content, local gigging, playlist pitching on Nigerian platforms.

My thoughts

Yes—he absolutely “can make it”, especially with consistent effort and a more strategic approach. He’s shown musicality, emotion, and clarity in production, which are solid foundations. If he refines delivery, sharpens songs, and builds a more distinctive brand, I believe he’s got a real shot at making noise locally—and possibly beyond.
You gave a precise analysis on how he can make it but left out just one more thing. He needs to belong, he needs to belong and connect with the right music executives and they in turn initiates him into their inner workings. Don't ask me what I mean by inner workings

And who are the management, I am telling you something from a personal experience. If you don't go thru what I stated above. You will just make music and get known. But to enter the next level of Fame and superstar, you have to do the do.
When Oritse Femi said "if you're new in the game, make you go pay your tithe" you think it's just ordinary lyrics.
Dagrin said in Ponponpon, that his first album didn't sell. But after going to the river to wash his head things change. You think all these are mere lyrics.
If you want my personal experience I will share it with you

You need some skillfull and designated people particularly for dat job to post your music on those platform you just listed.

In summary, you need enough money and networking.

All me just want to do is make one or to new hit.
Then blend with two of d hottest DJs in Nigeria right now to include my songs.

Visit some FM for interviews and air playtime. Post it online, notjustok, trendybeats, Spotify etc. And If I can pay Coker,Sesan or Aje for descent shot, then throw it on Music Channels.
By the time I meet Marvins,YBNL, Naira or OBO, I won't need much intro.

You can't do it alone from d start. I love Marvins.
The most important thing is to do great songs

Back in 2012 when I was very active on Facebook, I met a young aspiring boy who is into music and wants to go into it big time on Facebook. We became friends and we chat a lot. He was living in Ibadan while I was in Lagos. When we first became friends I didn't know he was a singer until our chats went on and on. So one day he told me he has a demo and he's looking for marketer to help him market his music. And that he's been hearing of Alaba market the then centre of big marketers of music. That since I lived in Lagos I should know Alaba so I can take him to the place.
Fortunately for him, where I live in Lagos is #50 bus fare to Alaba market back then. I told him no problem that I know the place, anytime he's ready to come I will take him to the place.
So one Saturday he travelled down from Ibadan to Lagos and got to my place on Saturday evening, it was too late for us to go there so he spent the weekend at my place and we headed for Alaba on Monday.
But between that Saturday and Sunday I have played his 5 tracks demo over and over again and they were good songs.
The rythm are ok and it's danceable. I told him he has good songs and voice too. So on Monday we headed to Alaba and somehow located ABHU Ventures the marketers of Timaya back then.
When we got their office and told them what we came for, they usher us their main boss office. After introduction and all, he asked for my friend's demo disk. After playing and rewinding them he nodded his head and said
Wow! That my friend has good songs that's marketable but...... And then paused.
We asked him what's the but for?
He now said if I can excuse him and let him talk to my friend the owner of the songs one on one, as I wanted to get up my friend said nope that I shouldn't go anywhere that he should tell him anything he wanted to say while I'm there, that I am his uncle.
The boss then said ok and then change his language to Igbo which both of us were.
He told my friend in Igbo language that can he do what it takes to make his music blow and become a star/superstar like others.
We were confused, though me I know where he's heading to but just to pretended so that he can elaborate more on it.
My friend told him he doesn't understand what he's saying. He shooked his head, lean back on his seat and just blotted the words out. With stern voice he said can you do blood sacrifice?
Silence filled the office for like 2 min and then we told him if he can give us some minutes to deliberate about it with ourselves. He told us to go out and think about it and get back to him in 10min. We went out, and I asked my friend can you and do you want to do it. He was pissed off and told me this was exactly what they told him back in Ibadan that he has to do some sacrifice of sorts.
So I asked him what was in his mind now, and he told me it's a no no for him and if that's how it gonna pan out concerning music in Nigeria he will just forgo everything.
I said no problem I know what to say, we went back to the boss and I told my brother is yet to make up his mind maybe he should give us some days to think about it, he agreed. Gave us back the demo tape and we left.
After my friend left for Ibadan we continue chatting until some months later he relocated to Malaysia to join one of his brother who's a business guy. That was how he jettison his music idea. After some years we lost contact.
It was even thru him I knew 99% of musicians/Artiste can't enter stage without having taking either drugs or alcohol.
And I have witness that countless times, if you still want me to share that I can share it too.

I don't think you still get it, First of as at then we didn't know about streaming dsp or what you call it and even as at now sef, with the streaming apps, can you get into the main stream without dealing with the music executives. Didn't Mohbad know about the streaming app that the music executives almost and succeeded in killing his music career. Where is Reekado Banks now after he left Don Jazzy? See once you don't do their bidding or have done and you want to get out, they'll frustrate you with everything. No other record label will sign you. They'll give top radio stations dj money not to be playing your music including the streaming apps.
You think those upcoming musicians in US that wants to make it don't know about streaming app that P.Diddy and the likes are frustrating them bcus they refused to play balls. If you decide to stay on your own, highest you will be heard here and there but that superstardom forget it
