I used to think the process was all about “just apply and wait” — but I later found out there are important details most people overlook (and that can cause unnecessary delays or even rejection).

Here’s what I learned:

✅ The online application is only one step — there’s more to it.
✅ There are 3 types of tinted glass setups, and not all require medical reports.
✅ Certain documents (especially the car’s VIN or tint markings) make a big difference.
✅ If your car is registered in someone else’s name (e.g., inheritance or company), there are legit ways to still get approved.

The next step is to wait for processing—sometimes they send a text or update the status when it's time for capturing or final approval. Just keep checking the portal every few days. – Valid driver’s license
– Passport photo
– National Identification Number (NIN)
– A valid reason for the tinted glass (this part matters)

If you select “medical reason” like I did, you’ll need a medical report. I had mine typed up by a private clinic, stamped and signed. Just make sure it looks legit and mentions light sensitivity or eye-related conditions.

Step 4 – Invoice & Payment:
After document upload, the system generates an invoice. You must pay the fee through REMITA. Once paid, upload proof of payment back to the portal.

Step 5 – Capture appointment:
Once your documents are reviewed, they’ll schedule you for physical biometric capture at the nearest police command. They’ll confirm your fingerprints, photo, and verify your reason for tinting.

Step 6 – Wait for final approval:
After capture, your application goes through final vetting. If everything checks out, you’ll get a downloadable permit with a QR code for verification during police checks.

BONUS Tip:
If your application is still “pending,” don’t panic. That’s normal. It means they’re reviewing your docs. But if it stays that way too long, you might need to follow up at the police station or call support.

Please note:
Company-registered vehicles can also apply, but you’ll need to upload CAC documents instead of personal ID.

I hope this helps someone trying to go through the process. It’s way better to handle it the right way than deal with random police stops and heavy fines.

‎This extension comes on the heels of several concerns and feedback expressed by members of the public regarding the reactivation of the digital Tinted Glass Permit application process. In line with our commitment to delivering transparent, inclusive, and citizen-focused policing, the Force wishes to affirm that it has not ignored the voices of Nigerians. Rather, these voices have been instrumental in guiding ongoing reviews of the process to ensure it remains user-friendly, secure, and accessible to all.

‎The extension of enforcement is also intended to give room for additional enhancements and refinements to the application process, ensuring that no member of the public is unduly disadvantaged.

‎The NPF is actively working to simplify and improve both the physical and contactless application options including enhanced verification mechanisms and streamlined procedures to reduce delays and eliminate undue inconveniences.

If the vehicle is in your late brother’s name, and you’ve been using it for years, you still can apply for the permit — but with a simple twist:

🔹 You’ll register in your own name
🔹 But use the existing vehicle documents (even though the car papers carry his name)

The Police permit portal does not currently reject owner name vs applicant name, as long as the documents are clear.

✅ You’ll just need to upload your own ID and a medical report
✅ Then register the permit in your name
✅ You can even include a short reason if necessary — but in most cases, it goes through without stress

If you want to avoid all the stress or make sure it’s done clean and fast — I can assist with the full package.

I have an unregistered vehicle with tints and I dont plan on registering the vehicle anytime soon... is there any way to this?

Here’s what I’ve found after helping multiple people with this:

💡 Trick 1 – Reregistration (with same details):
If your dashboard doesn’t move for weeks, try reapplying from scratch using the same email/phone. It often resets things and lets the system process you faster. Just avoid typos.

⚡ Trick 2 – Use an alternate processing state:
Some states are faster with approval than others. Lagos, Abuja, and Rivers are often overloaded. If you choose a quieter state (like Ekiti or Gombe), you might bypass the queue entirely. Still legal — and still issued under NPF.

📬 Bonus tip – Track your status:
Check your email for any capture appointment message. If you missed the first one, you can still go directly with your reference code. No need to start from scratch.

As it stands now, the tinted permit system needs your car to be properly registered first.
No way around it unless you're planning to convert the car to a registered status.

How long should one wait for invite to do capturing and if I don't get it, then I can visit the police station to find out.
I paid for mine on the 26th of June and I check the portal regularly, it is still on pending capturing till now. The phone number on the portal is not connecting, I sent an email requesting for an update but I haven't received any reply to my email.
