It is true. Tinubu pls listen to them. It is disheartening to wake one day ur school name is changed. More painful is when the name is a brand. Pls, Federal University of Transportation, this is the kind of name that should be renamed to honor people. Unimaid, haba....am not a student nor an Alumnus but am very much concerned.

This is not about failure or success. It is about destroy the image of a school with just a pronouncement. University of IFE was loud but when it was changed to OAU, it was like the school died that same day.

A few noise maker can not dictate to a very strong leader. Those protesting are few and inconsequential. Majority of the Northerners have commended the effort and are happy with him. A good leader doesnt react to every agitation or noise from every tom, dick and harry. Jonathan is a weakling and Tinubu is a strong leader. That's the difference.

All the saga about the burial that took place is that APC thought that calling Buhari name would endear the North to them. It is more of a political jingoism.

Even for UNILAG, we reject it. I am an alumnus of both UNIMAID and UNILAG and we say no to renaming of educational institutions after politicians.

In 2012, Tinubu received over 100 protesting students of UNILAG who marched to his house to submit a letter of petition against the renaming of UNILAG. He received the petition and would later lend his voice to the struggle then, categorically stating that renaming UNILAG wasn't the best way to immortalise MKO Abiola.

Today, we vehemently refuse the renaming of UNIMAID. Re-echoing Tinubu's words that renaming UNIMAID is not the best way to immortalise Muhammadu Buhari.

Ahmadu Bello University was not established by the Federal Government

It was established by the regional government of Northern Nigeria


It was only taken over bythe Federal Government under military rule

The deal is sealed.
They should choose between UNIMUBU or UNIMUGU.

That is why I as a southerner from Oyo State spearheaded the petition and now it has been captured on one of the national dailies. So far, the petition has garnered over 6500 signatures. I very much understand what you mean, but through our collective actions, we have been able to get a lot of our alumni and students (who although are quite conservative) to speak up. We will be engaging media houses next week, and will follow up with a peaceful walk to the National Assembly. Our final resort is the Court. We will take the FG to court.

These are centuries old institutions of learning yet they have three things in common - excellence, consistency, and legacy.

We must stop renaming our educational institutions after politicians. University of Maiduguri is 50 years old this year for heaven's sake.

Go and name the Federal University of Transportation in Daura after Buhari. There is the Nigerian Army University Biu which can be used to immortalise him being a former General. Even though I don't support the idea of renaming educational institutions after politicians.
