Hehehe! I said the same thing. Rename the Federal University of Transportation in Daura Kastina state after Buhari if you must do. However, Buhari does not deserves it.

Tinubu can not resist the renaming of the University of Lagos back then under Jonathan, but today wants to claim a hero in honouring a valian like Buhari for political favour. It is a wrong move in its entirety.

Lets be a bit factual in these arguments.

Havard is named after it's founder.

Yale was renamed after a particular benefactor that came almost 20 years later and gave substantial donations.

Oxford and Cambridge are almost a 1000 years old and both were formed by groups of theologians/academics, thus no one person got the naming rights. However both Universities consist of several autonomous colleges, and a lot of the colleges are named after people.

Again, none of these universities above are owned by one person or government, they are private universities, and the private people chose the names.

Also several American presidents have prominent universities named after them, with George Washington alone having 5 ! Bush Snr, Clinton, Bush jnr, Obama and Biden all have educational institutions named after them.

Though I agree with sentiment that says you should not change names of prominent institutions without the buy in of stakeholders, the fact remains government owns them and until these institutions can prove they are prominent enough to be self sufficient, everything any of us say about renaming them is pure opinion.

At least Ojukwu went to school , he was a graduate , but those two, the one that renamed and the one his name was put there can't be traced to education servers in the world...Where did they study their Primary and Secondary schools huh

UNiABUJA

UNICAL
UNIPORT
ABU
And few others.

The names of these institutions are supposed to be protected not messed up.

What is University of Abuja doing on this list, and UI is missing, FUTO

Intact, All these renaming should just stop, including State Universities. If a structure must be named, then a new structure or factory can be established for that purpose

Look here young man. You've been ranting too much on this Website with your baseless ethnic bigotry and primordial innuendoes while trying to gaslight the Yoruba folks in your highly uninformed post ABOVE.

For your information, it was the students of UNILAG from different ethnic groups and the alumni of UNILAG who rejected the renaming (NOT that MKO Abiola was hated) of UNILAG and the young students went out to protest massively in Lagos against the renaming of that institution. If the current students of the institution in Maiduguri feel the same way as the UNILAG students did, then they can go out to protest massively and reverse the name change. If NOT, then the new name would remain.

Second, the late former President Muhammadu Buhari's mother is of mixed Hausa and Kanuri bloodline with Buhari being paternally a Fulani (via a Niger Republic settler father in Daura, Katsina) was once the military Governor of a large state which encompassed the current Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, and Taraba States. So, he was well loved when he was the military Governor. That may have informed the renaming of that University to his name. Period.

There is nothing wrong with renaming Unimaid after the late president. It does not matter whether it is 50 or 100 years old.

Nigeria is not the UK or US. The late president deserves the honour.
