The shameful thing about this discussion is that Anambra state apparently has to rely on tax revenue from companies and oil money and not from its own people.

At the end, such money is not enough, and thus loans become inevitable.

Also, why ain't they developing a manufacturing industry that exports based on what is happening in Nnewi and environs. ? It could make them billions per annum.

And before any joke thinks I am here to attack their hero...remember all states, including Lagos, have the same problem. That's why they are broke and take loans, and why people are not invested in what their government is doing, when over 70% of the national population does not pay tax, instead we all rely on oil money that can only sustain on a good day 5 million people.

When every nigerian pays half their income in tax like they do in Denmark and even 40% like they do in Germany, you will see governments that work very well by fire by force...otherwise they will get the French revolution treatment....libertie, egalite, fratenite, ou la mort.

The main reason Obi will not be the president of Nigeria is the obedients. Just imagine telling the ONLY CBN governor who corrected the misdeeds of Nigeria from it's independence day till OBJ's time. The man who shaped our economy with Ngozi Iweala who is not the DG of WTO. The man who cancel Naija's debt with Iweala. This man was the boss of Sanusi the never CBN gov and now emir of Kano. And you have the audacity to say he isn't practical and doesn't know economics. So, na ordinary trader who we can't see what he did in Anambra is better education wise. Lol.

It's very funny. A man who change the whole of out banking system from analog to digital. He raised the bar and made our banks so prosperous. We can point to all he did because the evidences are still there and will exist for decades. And what hebis presently doing in Anambra, we can point to them for many years to come. You forgot the number of people the company took off the street. No matter how u view it soludo statement was careless.

Let me help break this down:

Anambra State invested $30 million USD in the brewery project, an amount that was equivalent to approximately ₦48 billion at the time.

Today, the value of those shares in SABMiller (now owned by AB InBev) has dropped to less than $3 million USD. This means the original ₦48 billion investment is now worth less than ₦4.8 billion. In essence, Anambra State has lost about $27 million USD or over ₦45 billion.

Now that Anambra is earning ₦300 million annually from that investment, it would take roughly 160 years for Anambra State to recover its initial $30 million investment.

Tell me how that type of investment makes any sense!!!

From my shallow understanding then, it means the Brewery Obi brought to Anambra is earning dividends to the state in three folds (or even more);

1. Tax income
2. Income from Shares
3. Indirect taxation from employee tax and impact of operations (logistics, supply chain etc)

Your statement even validates Obi's investment choice more and more.

Looking at the bigger picture, the said ₦300M may just be a percentage of the total financial dividends the Brewery attracts monthly to Anambra.

If that's the case, Obi is a genius! He used one stone to kill multiple birds.

Maybe I'm just naive, what do i know?....
