Do you know what percentage of the revenue from Sabmiller goes to the anambra state government's purse? Perhaps you know better than the Governor.

The shameful thing about this discussion is that Anambra state apparently has to rely on tax revenue from companies and oil money and not from its own people.

At the end, such money is not enough, and thus loans become inevitable.

Also, why ain't they developing a manufacturing industry that exports based on what is happening in Nnewi and environs. ? It could make them billions per annum.

And before any joke thinks I am here to attack their hero...remember all states, including Lagos, have the same problem. That's why they are broke and take loans, and why people are not invested in what their government is doing, when over 70% of the national population does not pay tax, instead we all rely on oil money that can only sustain on a good day 5 million people.

When every nigerian pays half their income in tax like they do in Denmark and even 40% like they do in Germany, you will see governments that work very well by fire by force...otherwise they will get the French revolution treatment....libertie, egalite, fratenite, ou la mort.
I've been paying at least 13.5% tax monthly and I can't see anything that has been done with it. I still fix my car because of terrible roads.

I can't even get a tax clearance certificate.

The money that has entered the Governors hands should be accounted for before anybody talks to me about more tax.

Exactly....you pay 13.5% and you are among the minority who actually pay tax...as most people do not pay because they work in informal sector.

That's why tings don't get fixed, and you don't enjoy first world standards of living.

Note that I did not say that there is no corruption.

Let me help break this down:

Anambra State invested $30 million USD in the brewery project, an amount that was equivalent to approximately ₦48 billion at the time.

Today, the value of those shares in SABMiller (now owned by AB InBev) has dropped to less than $3 million USD. This means the original ₦48 billion investment is now worth less than ₦4.8 billion. In essence, Anambra State has lost about $27 million USD or over ₦45 billion.

Now that Anambra is earning ₦300 million annually from that investment, it would take roughly 160 years for Anambra State to recover its initial $30 million investment.

Tell me how that type of investment makes any sense!!!

This is the problem: you don’t understand how owning shares in a public company works. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be insulting a professor.
SabMiller is part of the International Breweries group, which is listed on the NGX. To understand Soludo’s position, you need to find out:
• How many shares Anambra owns in International Breweries,
• The current valuation of these shares,
• And how this compares to the amount originally invested.
If you do this, you’ll understand why you’re wrong on many fronts.
Sell the shares na. Someone offered to buy the shares and he hasn't responded.

Believe Soludo at your own peril.

The main reason Obi will not be Nigeria's president is because of the obedients. Imagine telling the ONLY CBN governor who corrected Nigeria's misdeeds from Independence Day to OBJ's time. The man who helped shape our economy, Ngozi Iweala, is now the Director-General of the World Trade Organization. The person who cancelled Naija's debt with Iweala. This man was the boss of Sanusi, the next CBN governor after Soludo, and is now the emir of Kano. And you have the audacity to claim that he is not practical and does not understand economics. So, an ordinary trader who we cannot see what he did in Anambra has a better education. Lol. grin

It is really funny. A man who transformed the entire banking system from analog to digital. He raised the bar and made our banks very prosperous. We can point to numerous things he did because the evidence is still present and will be for decades. And, because he is a visionary, his work in Anambra will be remembered for a long time. However, your Obi established a beer company that became worthless as soon as he left office. Lol. And you are questioning this man. Obedients are the reason Obi will not be Nigeria's president. Mark my words.

The money earned from crude oil, is it managed well over the past years , the little tax collected from the people, is it managed well over the past years , stop comparing developed nations with Nigeria, the way they manage their resources, it is not thesame way we manage our own here

Anambra makes money as a shareholder even if it's 1%.
They make money as well through taxes.

Please you are talking nonsense, if the amount invested is much lesser than its actual amount, you cannot say that peter obi made a bad investment because the devaluation of naira affected every corner of the economy even MTN reported a loss last year. if anyone is to blame , it is both the current and past president. Now ask yourself this question, if the money was used to build maybe a conference centre, do you think that will be generating more cashflow to the state than a brewery that not only generates monthly cashflow but has also created hundreds of direct jobs as well as thousands of indirect job. Please think deep before replying

No, I’m fully aware because the same company has plants in other parts of the country; in fact, bigger plants than the one in Anambra.

People really need to stop pushing this false narrative about Peter Obi’s investment in the brewery. The facts are very clear, but because of politics, some people just dey twist the story anyhow.

First of all, Anambra State did not even invest up to $30 million like they are claiming everywhere. The actual amount was between $12 million to $20 million at the time. Secondly, that investment wasn’t just about profit alone, the brewery is still very much active today, creating jobs for Anambra people, paying taxes to the state, and generating annual dividends of about ₦100 million to ₦300 million.

So tell me, how exactly is that a “bad investment”? Abi make government pack the money put for one corner dey look am? 🙄

Also, all this talk about “160 years to recover the investment” no make sense. Investments are not calculated like that. Public investments are about long-term value like job creation, tax revenue, economic growth - not just how fast you collect back your initial money.

Let’s not allow all this propaganda deceive us. That brewery investment is still adding value to Anambra State till today. If e bad, e for don fold up since.

Use your sense. Not every noise you hear online is the truth. 🚶🏽‍♂️🚶🏽‍♂️

Slawoomir:
From my shallow understanding then, it means the Brewery Obi brought to Anambra is earning dividends to the state in three folds (or even more);

1. Tax income
2. Income from Shares
3. Indirect taxation from employee tax and impact of operations (logistics, supply chain etc)

Your statement even validates Obi's investment choice more and more.

Looking at the bigger picture, the said ₦300M may just be a percentage of the total financial dividends the Brewery attracts monthly to Anambra.

If that's the case, Obi is a genius! He used one stone to kill multiple birds.

Maybe I'm just naive, what do i know?....
Politics won't let them understand. It's true that a biased mind can't see to reasoning.

On the contrary, anybody can understand those 3 things the man listed. If you invest N 20,000.00 in a business and the current value is N 5,000.00, you don't need a prophet to tell you whether the investment is profitable.
