Opinion: SABMiller Was A Strategic Success For Anambra - Here’s Why by givedemwotowoto(op):
One of the primary responsibilities of government is NOT to maximize profit like private businesses do, but to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and generate tax revenue from the economic activity. Going by that standard, SABMiller was a strategic success. Here's why:

1. ROI: It has repaid its original capital investment over time, which is the ideal outcome that any government hopes to achieve.
2. Job Creation: The company employs hundreds of Anambra citizens directly (500 or so) and supports 5,000 families.
3. Economic Activity: The business has stimulated economic activity in related sectors like logistics, retail and agriculture.
4. Revenue Generation: SABMiller ranks among the top IGR sources for Anambra state.

Rather than call the investment "worthless", Anambra government should reinvest the revenue generated into more job creation opportunities.

Compare Sabmiller to initiatives like YouWin and SURE-P, which also created jobs and stimulated the economy, but how many of them returned their initial capital to the government?

We shouldn't discredit forward-thinking initiatives because of politics. We can do better.

Even Buharis daughters thanked those who forgave him,his friends in the north spoke out that he did badly but it's now some agbadoists are confronting his bad governance after insulting everyone who spoke out on it years
ago, all to whitewash their New Messiah. I have said it before, majority of Nigerians like bad governance.

I was amongst the team that was de-briefed on the marketing activities & retail penetration of the SABMiller Industry Limited especially the Hero Brand.

From the demographics and Jusification for the Nigerian market as at 2012/2013 when I was debriefed it was bound to be a huge success.

Currently, SABMiller is the biggest brewer in Africa with 10% stake in Int'l Breweries.

International Breweries in H1 2025 remains the third highest performing stock in the NGX exchange.
