Water is wet. This is the Western Rule based Order in the International System. The only difference now is they're publicizing their hypocrisy and double standard in HD. It is no longer hidden. So if you're expecting those (political leaders) involved in electoral violence and malpractice in Africa to be sanctioned by Washington, you dey live for La La Land. Premium delulu. This is the same group constantly & forcefully preaching democracy to Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq. This State Department circular/announcement is not meant for the above countries.

🇺🇸Something amazing from The Wall Street Journal:

The U.S. State Department will no longer comment on the fairness of foreign elections unless there is a "clear and compelling" national interest.

Under the new rules, statements will focus on congratulating the winners without assessing the integrity of the elections.

How is it irrelevant? You were clearly comparing your father's business and investment acumen to that of Peter Obi.
That's a basic template for investors and Obi plunged Anambra into poverty with the school boy's error. Whether my dad made billion dollars or not has nothing to do with a financial blunder made by Obi and highlighted by a first class Economics graduate governing the state now.

Nobody is above mistake, but Obidients don't agree to that when it involves their man.

Anytime I see someone say that Nigeria doesn’t have a labour and/or people problem, I know the person is either not an entrepreneur and/or employer of labour, or they are simply being dishonest.

We are facing a deep-rooted issue with our value system, and at the heart of it lies a culture of impunity. Ajayi Oluwatobi

Well we can't say how much she's offering to pay compared to what it's listed for. Some people don't depend on money they collect for rent for their sustenance, they just want someone that's staying in the house and keeping it maintained...she fit get luck say the owner na that kin person.

I do agree it's a hard ask sha, especially since he could bid his time for responsible tenants that would meet his asking.
Forget ghat talk.

Nobody lets out an Ikoyi property for a chicken change; not even a non profit organization will rent out a landed property at Ikoyi for a price less than it's true market value.

Druze are currently being massacred by jihadist but the world is silent,UN is silent,EU is silent,no Jews no news.

When Israel intervenes now the whole world will paint them as villains, even so called Christians who don't know that they're killing Christians in Syria will side with jihadist.

But don't worry, all this things are happening for a reason for the reason the sheeps and the goat are being separated.

Many people heart will poisoned because of their hatred for Isr ael,for gog and Magog to take place Isra el will painted as the villain in this last days.

In 2024, Peter Obi donated at least N677,000,000. ($441,042 @ $1/N1,535). This does not include borehole projects in the North or an undisclosed donation on March 13. Also includes estimates of the value/cost of a coaster bus and 10 HP laptops.

By end of 2025 we will review what he has done

All the homes in Ikoyi are not evenly priced, and there's sometimes wiggle room in original asking when renting. It's highly unlikely the seller is won over by the letter, but it's not impossible.

I know someone that till today, his rent in a 4-bed duplex around Ikotun is 600K.

I agree with your general sentiment but on some rare occasions, the landlord may just take a liking to a prospective tenant and give some concessions, like a flexible payment plan.

I got such a concession when I moved into my current place. Landlord agreed for me to pay 80% upfront and pay the balance 3 months into my rent period. Also, gave me a few days jara by allowing my rent to run from 1st February despite moving in mid-January.

....And oh, no be Lagos landlord wink

I understand that it's Nigeria, and you can't visit people empty handed, but is this sort of charity by Peter Obi sustainable, and should it be tracked and funded in this manner?

I have relatives that also had their rent pegged at the initial price for at least 7 years in this Lagos. But that's definitely not in Ikoyi.

U see the thing about those highbrow areas is the people who own those properties know the value of what exactly they possess. And when I say this, I don't mean maybe the beauty of the house or anything like that, but the commercial viability of their property. If u feel whatever amount tbey are asking for as rent is too much, right there u would see a corporate organization pay the price and convert the house to a commercial premises.

I attached picture of a 25 million naira per annum 2 bedroom at Ikoyi to this post. What I'm clearing Theflint1 is that u won't see a landlord that will forgo let's say 2 million out of the asking price and collect 23 million from u because u write letter say u dey dream of living in the house and u can plant flower.

If we are talking of a property at Igando and u are begging landlord from 800k to 750k, I can agree it is very much possible.

I never said I strongly believe it'd happen, just saying it's not impossible...the human factor in negotiations of all kinds can't be written off, even for things people consider luxury purchases.

If she was dealing with the agent directly, I'd say it's impossible, but she's dealing with the landlord, and the things he'd be considering renting his property out won't be same as an agent. For someone that's a proeprty owner in Ikoyi, that 25M fit be nothing for e cash flow, meaning they can be sentimental.

There is always the rare case, where the landlord choose based on the potential upkeep and maintenance of the property that agreeing to 10% discount wont be out of place, personally I would take this person at 10% drop cos the chances are I would spend less renovating the property at the end of her tenancy.

Also some landlords in these highbrow areas, main concern could be assest as store of wealth, capital appreciation, and not solely focused on rental income. Old money will mostly choose tenant that gives peace of mind over profit margin, happens everywhere, absolutely no harm in the lady trying it might just work.

It's not about how the money is treated, if the money means little to the landlord they could let it go...the landlord on the mainland discounting 50K from 800K rent is making as much sacrifice as the Ikoyi landlord that discounts 2M from a 25M property.

The girl that attached her approach to property maintenance knew what she was doing, she was expressing a value that the landlord might not get from other tenants. She wasn't making an empty plea.

Wow.. Didn't know you can find a 4 bed duplex for that amount anywhere in Lagos. You won't even get a one bed flat for that amount in my area here in ph.

Why should I agree to grant discount on the asking price for rent because someone promised to take care of the flowers already planted there?

Like look at this thing logically ; she's not making any real offer here other than to sweet talk the property owner to part with the true and fair value of his property.

Real estate in this country is overpriced. Is this house really worth 25m per annum? From the picture I'm seeing, I don't think so.

It's a matter of demand and supply. There's huge demand for real estate in that axis.

FYI, Ikoyi is one of the most expensive places to live in Lagos. Houses there are more expensive than Lekki sef.
