Even if we ignore the house/real estate which usually gulps the most part of your money,
60% of the things that will make him a big boy in Nigeria are imported. E.g Will your cars be cheaper than the person buying in America? Your electronics your gadgets, your vacations, Your flight ticket? Before we go to your healthcare.
Upper middle class and above, Almost all your expenses are on imported items where you are likely to pay more than someone in US by the time you factor in cost of importation and clearing

Will you also buy a flat on the Island and how much do you buy them for?

Nigeria wey everything na billion billion dem dey mention.
Don't get me wrong, $2m can make you live like a king in certain part of Nigeria, actually most places in Nigeria but not everywhere especially in prime areas of Lagos Abuja PH

The only thing is that you can buga people more with $2m, Labor is cheaper, local produced products are cheaper, You can carry OS all night for the equivalent of $30 which you cant do in America
How much be OS for America? grin grin

You're missing the point. The comparison was about lifestyle feel, not raw financial power.

Of course, $200M is a whole different league, jets, sports teams, generational wealth, no argument there. But what I'm saying is in Nigeria, $2M feels and functions like $200M does in the US.
You live large, people treat you like royalty, and you get access, comfort, and power in ways that even $10M in the US won’t buy you.

Can you buy a private jet with $2M? No. But do you need one to live like a king here? Also no. You can rent one, move around like a boss, own top-tier property, have a full staff, and still be the biggest man in most rooms, all without being anywhere near $200M rich.

So again, it's not about the dollar-to-dollar comparison. It's about impact per dollar in context.
A visit to a proper car stand in Lekki will make you calculate how much of your money is remaining. I wonder how much $2m is worth in Lagos when a decent duplex in just Orchid cost more than a quarter of your assets.

Except if your target is to live in a village with no civilization.

If he gets anywhere near power, he will be the one to make me win the debate about the similarities between Nigerian people and Nigerian politicians. Una go hear and see wen! grin

What part of Lagos will this $2m big boy be living since he cannot live in Ikoyi, Banana Island, Asokoro and Lekki phase 1?
Are you actually called a Nigerian elite if you cant afford to live in these areas

You will be able to oppress people more surely but when the elites of Lagos dey do roll call, you will have to hide your face sha
He can build his own water front mansion in Ikorodu and buy a boat and move to all parts of the Island at will.

And in all fairness, odogwu BTC is living like a king in his mind especially when he compares himself with his peers. Imagine doling out 500k to one of his friends who is just a barber.

Odogwu BTC knows better than to go on luxury vacations where he will rent a yatch and drink expensive wines. He knows better not to ball in any club in Ikoyi where a quarter of his networth might be lavished by a regular joe he doesn’t know. ( Suddenly making him feel poor). He knows he doesn’t need a tear rubber G wagon to feel like a King.

Odogwu BTC knows that rolling with the poor command their respect and adoration, which makes him feel like a king 🤴

You guys are not getting his point. Maybe it's because he's using the dollar figure.
$2m is approximately 3.5 billion naira. That is indeed enough to guarantee you the life of a king in Nigeria. You can build a correct mansion with like 400 million naira in the lesser high brow and enough to maintain your wealth while being able to afford premium healthcare in Nigeria.

Yeah his comparison with that of $200m is far fetched. But the main point stands that the lifestyle of 3.5 billion naira is better in our own dysfunctional society to it's equivalent in the USA where you're still very much in check by the society.

I don't think so. I think it's the reality of the money-worshipping complex prevalent in our society in general.

We really are in a very poor society such that even having 500 million naira guarantees you a lifetime of adulation and praise from your surroundings.

An amount which is almost nothing in the western world.
We have a money worshipping culture and no one escapes that. We've seen it on some abrodians here when they brag about flexing in the richest places on vacation here with an amount of money that wouldn't really go far where they are.

Mansion, 400m and highbrow area in the same sentence? You might wish to recheck what those things mean before you make an even worse goof than elder.

Now it's about past performance?

I thought
you said you hated Obi because he is a deceiver and Tinubu is a saint. Your hypocrisy dey smell everywhere my brother.

You cannot support BAT in anyway and not sound silly.

I am not going to start arguing about performance. That one has been cleared. Only a Google search will provide you a comparison.

Anyone who knew Anambra before PO will appreciate what he did there

Besides, what Nigeria needs now is not someone who has CV but no certificate. We need someone with character and compassion. Two virtues Tinubu will never have in his entire life. A person who sold drugs to poor black Americans cannot have these two qualities.

A person whose company's objective is to steal Lagos State treasury cannot have these two qualities.

He didn't even win the election so I never expected anything good from him. No one who steals power uses it for the good of the people. Since he is your father, tell him to stop using public resources to treat himself. He should either use his own resources or he should build a national hospital here in Nigeria.
After reading the emboldened I didn't bother to read the expected gibberish remaining.

Show where I told you that Tinubu is a saint. I have posted here multiple times not to trust any Naija politician. But that's not what you expect but to tell you Obi is the best despite his many lies and inhumane actions against Anambra people.

You have to focus on fixing your dilapidated thinking faculty, rather than doing laundry service for Obi up and down.

While trying to help elder with his argument u are making it worse. How will 3.5 billion guarantee u a lifetime of living like a king in mansions and u will still be able to afford premium healthcare?

Do u even know how much it will cost u to acquire and maintain ur luxury vehicle, ur security convoy and pay attendant bills annually ?

If u really mean living like a king in the way elder has described, trust me ur 3.5 billion will not even last beyond a year or two (I'm being generous here). Except the 3.5 billion is a regular/periodic income and not some lump sum he's not sure where the next one would come from
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Godx: 9:29am On Jul 22, 2025
Some posters on nairaland are really detached from reality and are so obsessed with Lagos this and Lagos that. Folks are actually here arguing that 3.5billion wont make one live like Elon musk in a country where the minimum wage is 75k. Some of you need to actually visit other parts of the country.

You are right that we have a money worshipping problem as Nigerians (Maybe Africans in general), but 500 million doesn't guarantee u a lifetime of adulation one bit. If u get the 500 million as seasonal/periodic income then maybe u have a point.

Debate renovation.

The debate wasn’t about whether 2m US dollars would make you live well in Nigeria.

It was about equating the impact of 2m dollars in Nigeria to 200m dollars in US.

Most of them are not actually reading your post to understand. It's just to argue. One is bringing $4m dollar house in Lagos like they aren't houses in America that sells for 150 to 200million plus.

Nothing like misunderstanding.

100:1 is too wide.

The argument you and TH are trying to make is only valid up to a point.
The upper band is 5:1 to 10:1.
