It is very much the key to success. I think a common mistake we make is to confine education to the four walls of a University. Education happens inside and outside; before and after.

Not all paths to success require a University education. That being said, some paths to success definitely require a University education.

Good day, fellas. I have been pondering on this for sometime now. Is Education truly the key to success in Nigeria? Most of us grew up hoping that after graduating from tertiary instutions, everything would fall in place but after schooling, reverse was the case.
For the vast majority, it remains the key to success. undecided

Having education doesn't totally qualifies you to be literate. I've seen some who acquired education but still illiterate.

I've also seen some who haven't gone through school but mentally literate.
So education isn't a yardstick for sucess, but the mind.
Yes sorry to say an elderly family brother fall into this category.

He can't reason correctly .
He can't think like a graduate or think like someone that is exposed to education ..

It’s a requirement in human endeavors, either formal or informal. The question is, did you get the right education to succeed?

The contextual definition of success has to explained. If you mean financial success as a result of attending a tertiary institution, studying a math/quantitative based course increases one's chances of being financially comfortable.

Education is just the key holder.

Sabificate is not certificate; a sabificate holder can employee a certificate holder.

"Financial intelligence is the key to success"

No let anybody receive you.

Note: I never said certificate Is useless, but what's is the importance of a smoke without flames?

No ways, Education is not a metric to measure success. If it were a measure of success, Ronaldo won't be worth billions today.

The most brilliant guy in my class is going about begging people for money here and there. Meanwhile this brother used to bag numerous awards on prize giving day, coupled with handshake from the Principal and other dignitaries.

Look at the condition of Nigeria and go figure.

Deepening illiteracy, worsening ignorance fueling extremism, corruption and corroding values across board making Nigeria a perpetually better place yesterday.

Knowledge's first born is liberty. Knowledge sets free. Freedom of a people to chart their course to prosperity. But here we are crushing institutions and elevating strongmen to autocratic status, and the feudalism that means 200 million medieval citizens depend on a king to think for them.

Re: Is Education Still The Key To Success? by Halo22: 4:49pm On Jul 22, 2025
People refer to education only when someone attains the tertiary level in schooling, such as University. But beyond that, education in general concept encompasses both formal, informal and non-formal learning process. Take for instance, the apprenticeship education system which is a non-formal arrangement has produced more billionaires than all the universities in the country put together. I think the onus lies on the Government to restructure the National Youth Service into an empowerment scheme, where Corp members would be trained for some time and given some soft loan to start up some kind of venture and then utilize their learning for the improvement of the economy of this country.

(Ecclesiastes 9:11 NET) Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge – for time and chance may overcome them all.

A similar question made the front page recently. Education is the foundational key to success - it will not change.

I will reshare my response on that thread below.

The rule holds till this day.

Going to school figuratively means acquiring skills and knowledge.

What can anyone do without knowledge & Skill?

It is one thing to acquire a skill; it is another thing to know how to position oneself for opportunities.

In the early days of our forebears, they had multiple opportunities to choose from.

The Job market is very competitive now - there are a ton of graduates at the first degree, second degree and even at doctorate level.

Highly skilled individuals still have an advantage today.

Notwithstanding, life is in stages - the majority of people start with a small income, multiply their income level over time while adding value and skills.

Making the right decisions, having a positive mindset to work and life is important.

I hope you are following the story of how top companies are throwing money at Artificial Intelligence Experts lately....

Make I stop here abeg..... there is more to say but make I stop here

Education is not only about certificates, it’s about basic knowledge of things.

A carpenter is an educated person in his or her field.
Re: Is Education Still The Key To Success? by Abbeytoy(m): 6:51pm On Jul 22, 2025
Yes… but we must redefine what education means.

Education is not just about certificates. It’s about knowledge, skill, passion, and the ability to adapt and grow.

A carpenter, photographer, Mechanic and co are educated in their field.
