Thank you Wike. Obi is just too desperate to be president. He want to be seen as a different politician. Is it not same man that share 400 cars to traditional rulers in anambra during his reelection. He can only fool the obidients but not person like me. Obi is an attention seeker. Assuming Obi is visiting Abia (with a LP governor) or if Edo is under LP, won’t he notify the governor? The fact some governors tolerated it out of ignorance or for some reasons personally known to them doesn’t mean every governors should take it. Even as a sitting president, you need to inform the governor of the state before visiting such state.

And for those crying Obi is a private citizen bla bla bla…..NO, Obi is not just an ordinary citizen, he’s a former governor and a formidable presidential candidate with a followership of supporters described as the “headless mob”. They can cause trouble based on just anything. Gov. Okpehbolo is just being proactive.

However,Obi isn't currently contesting for any position and is free to enter any state as a private citizen according to the 1999 constitution as amended!

Obi can visit any state as a private citizen without informing any governor!

Protocol does demand that Peter Obi inform the governor about his impending visits but there is no obligation.
The governor and the security agencies also have an obligation to protect Peter Obi and even the followers and non followers alike.
Too much ado about nothing. The governor needs to learn that he should not be responding to everything. He should be a very very busy man.

That was during campaign of 2023 presidential election.
During such activities, it's necessary that you inform the sitting governor of the state for security reasons.

same way a governor can tell a traditional ruler request permission before leaving his kingdom. That some traditional rulers move around as they please does not mean they arent supposed to inform the governor.

Infact the late Awujale was dethroned because he refused to honour the then governor's request to seek permission before leaving ijebu to travel abroad. What saved him was the coup of dec 31 1983 that overthrew the governor.

This is one of the reasons why,in implementing the decentralization of the policing act,there must be an explicit clause that blocks a governor from controlling their state police!
This will ensure state policing in different states operate independently by being free from political interference while upholding the rule of law impartially.
