The crow is trending, and many people are calling it evil. But what do you really know about this bird? Is the crow truly evil or just misunderstood?

Just a smart bird

Like very smart, able to recognize people and take vengeance

Lol, this bird I usually see during the daytime in my university. Just like a black cat, any supersition about it in real life is false. It is only associated with fictional fantasy.

There's documentary on them on natgeo wild.
They are very intelligent and recognize faces, pass word around their community and revenge when hurt as is rightly stated here.
They also reward acts of kindness by bringing gifts to people. Pebbles, feathers and seemingly useless things but their way of showing appreciation.
It's only in a black man's country things not understood is demonized instead of studying to understand.

Ahhh this bird grin

We call it Pastor Bird in my village because of its white patch around its neck.
I believe it's a local version of Crow or maybe Raven I don't know but truly that bird is very intelligent.

TRUE STORY

There was a time I did something very bad at home and needed to dodge from my daddy for the day, it was a Saturday and since I couldn't escape out the front door through the gate I decided to climb the manhole and go to the rooftop where we keep our water (geepee) tank.

I sneaked up there without any of my siblings knowing as I didn't want anybody 'kobalizing' me wink , I got up on the platform where the tank was and proceeded to hide there till the family thought I had escaped out the compound one way or the other.

I hadn't stayed there for up to 30mins before one of these pastor birds was flying overhead and spotted me and began making very loud 'Caw - Caw - Caw' sounds . . . It was pissing me off because it just kept circling overhead and making the noises. I will wave my hands wildly at it to shoo it off and it will fly to a neighbors roof and perch. When I bent back down to hide it will fly over me again and start making its 'Caw - Caw - Caw' noise and I will start looking for how to pursue it away again by flailing my hands wildly.

This went on back and forth for like 1 hours and then it flew away and I was Happy thinking it had gone for good . . . Only for it to return in another 10mins with 4 of its buddies angry

Let's just say, my dad later caught me on top the roof and brought me down and gave me the beating of my life that day.

Funny thing is, for one week after that day these same birds were always coming to my compound to check on me to see if I was available for another round of whatever 'play' they thought I was playing with them undecided

Very bad and stubborn things 😔

Yes, crows are smart. They come where we eat at the shores of the Delta and pick up your food and fly away with it.

They are not evil.
Any creature that exhibits any form of intelligence is always given a bad name, misunderstood, feared and hated. This includes humans too.

They and Ravens are among the smartest birds. They have a long memory and are very selfish to their young.
Re: Crow: What Do You Know About This Trending Animal? Is It Truly Evil? Picture by KingTom(m): 7:28pm On Jul 22, 2025
I told y'all about these birds sometime ago. It's on sight now for him grin

KingTom:
I've seen this happen before, beside my house lies a telecom mast. Apparently the crows had placed several nests atop those masts, when the engineers came, they threw everything down including the crow eggs, the one who climbed up and threw those things down was attacked by a flight of crows grin see as sky turn black that day... the boy who lives across picked one of the birds and started nursing it, I kid you not, these crows would hover around him from down the street till he gets home. They called him the Crow Whisperer, meanwhile anytime the telecom engineers come to top diesel, the crows will attack that particular engineer, every single time grin fascinating creatures, those crows.

Tool Masters: Craft hooks/spears from sticks/leaves & bend wire to solve puzzles.

Traffic Hackers: Drop walnuts on roads, use traffic lights to crack them open safely.

Math Whizzes: Count to 7, grasp "zero," and beat primates in logic tests.

👥 Social Geniuses
Family Ties: Live in 5-generation families; siblings help raise chicks.

Mega Roosts: Gather in winter "murders" of up to 2 million birds.

Funerals & Warnings: Hold gatherings for dead crows to share threat info.

⚔️ Never Forget a Face
Grudge Holders: Recognize and dive-bomb threatening humans years later.

Cultural Memory: Teach offspring to dislike humans they’ve never met.

🌍 Survival Experts
Food Cache GPS: Remember 1,000+ hiding spots for months.

Predator Mobbers: Gang up on hawks/owls to drive them away.

Omnivore Buffet: Eat anything from insects to roadkill to stolen fish.

🔥 Quick Fire Facts

Flight: Ravens soar (like hawks); crows flap steadily.

Tails: Raven = wedge-shaped; Crow = fan-shaped.

Sociability: Ravens often solitary/pairs; crows form large flocks.

🌑 Dark Myths Debunked
Not Omens of Death: Follow armies/scavenge battlefields for opportunity (e.g., WWII trenches).

Monogamous Partners: Mate for life; share food and groom each other.

..crow and raven are same bird but different sub species . They are intelligent and can recognize when someone or other animal is on distress.

Even the Bible recognizes them. They brought meat for Elijah in the wilderness for days. So how can you call them evil

The biblical story of Elijah and the ravens appears in 1 Kings 17:2-6. God instructs the prophet Elijah to hide by the brook Cherith, east of the Jordan, and promises that ravens will bring him food and that he will drink from the brook. The ravens, despite being considered unclean animals in Leviticus 11:15, become a source of sustenance for Elijah, providing him with bread and meat in the morning and evening. This event highlights God's provision and care for his prophet, even in a time of drought and famine.

Corvidae is a cosmopolitan family of oscine passerine birds that contains the crows, ravens, rooks, magpies, jackdaws, jays, treepies, choughs, and nutcrackers.

The bird in the image is a Pied Crow (Corvus albus), a striking and intelligent African corvid.
Here's some information about Pied Crows:
Appearance and Habitat:
They are easily recognized by their bold black and white plumage, with a white chest and belly contrasting with their black head, wings, and back. They are common throughout sub-Saharan Africa, preferring open areas and often found near human settlements like rubbish dumps and slaughterhouses due to their scavenging nature.
Diet and Behavior:
Pied Crows are omnivores, consuming a wide range of food including insects, reptiles, fruits, seeds, and food waste. They are known for their opportunistic foraging and scavenging habits. They can be aggressive, raiding nests for eggs and nestlings, and are often seen in pairs or small groups.
Intelligence:
Like other corvids, Pied Crows are highly intelligent and curious birds. Research suggests they possess problem-solving abilities and can even use tools.
Conservation Status:
Their high adaptability to human activities and lack of known predators contribute to their conservation status being listed as 'least concern

The unending problem with many Nigerians is that they don't know who their real enemies are.
They keep fighting and killing creatures that are not responsible for their suffering and insecurity, banditry and hunger in the Land
