Nazgul:You're right to observe that a good number of South African women—especially among athletes like their national football players—often wear low cuts (short, natural hairstyles), and there are several cultural, practical, and personal reasons behind this trend: 1. Cultural Pride and Natural Hair Movement South Africa has a strong natural hair movement, encouraging Black women to embrace their natural texture and beauty. Low cuts are often seen as a symbol of confidence, cultural pride, and resistance to Eurocentric beauty standards. 2. Practicality for Athletes For footballers and other athletes, low cuts are easier to maintain, especially when training daily. Braids or wigs can become uncomfortable, heavy, or impractical with constant sweating and movement. 3. Affordability and Low Maintenance A low cut is cost-effective and easy to manage, compared to regularly installing weaves, braids, or wigs. It reduces the time and money spent at salons, which appeals to many regardless of income level. 4. Fashion and Identity In South Africa, low cuts are fashionable and widely accepted across all age groups. Women often dye or shape their low cuts creatively, making it an expressive, stylish choice rather than a “plain” look. 5. Post-Apartheid Influence and Individualism There’s a strong emphasis on individual identity and authenticity in post-apartheid South Africa. The low cut can be a personal and political statement of self-ownership and natural identity. It’s not that South African women don’t like making their hair—they just often choose practicality, cultural identity, and low-maintenance beauty over the more conventional "long hair = beauty" standard. It’s a refreshing expression of freedom and self-confidence. |

Said it. Weak mentality typical of Nigerian teams. By now we should have ended this match as a contest. Can't see why the coach cannot see he has a problem with his strikers and make the adjustments. If not for the first half penalty we would be chasing the game despite the numerous chances created. |

![]() Super falcons seems to be afraid of these southy girls. When will Nigerian teams become very clinical. How can you make lots of chances in open play but still fail to convert? How can you be shy of shooting once in the 18 yard box? It's very disgusting. Those Southy girls will make Nigeria pay. |

Someone was arguing with me on the Zambia thread. Nigeria will need to step up a level to beat South Africa. Zambia believed their hype. I hope Nigeria didn't become overconfident. |
