wonderworld:/ It is not slavery if it is voluntary. They chose to work for N2070/day. If many of them quit, their salaries will be reviewed upwards. Indians and Chinese millionaires are building factories and employing Nigerians while their Nigerian counterparts are donating billions to build churches. / |

One Chinese company at ikpoba okha benin bypass comes to mind. I worked there briefly. It was hell. From racial discrimination to extreme work conditions for casual staffs, inefficient HSE implementation, poor Nigeria staff living conditions (7-8 staff in a tiny room), Poor restrooms and cafeteria, cover ups of sexual harassment on female Nigerian housekeepers and admin staffs by Chinese] I couldn’t fight it, I couldn’t endure it. Had to leave . I still ask myself why they ensure so much privileges here compared to our Nigeria brothers who are employers of labour in china |

Chinese and Lebanese factories are the worst . The youths of this country are like toothless dogs that can only bark without biting . In our own country fa, nobody can challenge these guys . The way they use Nigerians in their factories eh infact , maltreatment is an understatement. Do you know they even have Nigeria police officers who guide and worship them because of money. They are living like gods. They know money is our problem and they understand how to use that greed to use us . May God help us to use our brains well |

LegacyB:For National issues such as this, it's the Presidents call. We talking about foreign Nationals maltreating citizens in the name of employment. The Ministry of Labour has the responsibility of overseeing several govt agencies that ensures suitable employment for the populace by all standards. The Ministry is headed by a Minister who is appointed by the Presidency. |

smtx:Oga learn to know the President is just 1. You have Governors and other leaders at every turn. Even CDA chairman learn to know they are responsible. It’s too weak to heap all the blame on 1 President or Minister. If Labour knows they won’t be responsible then why do why have NLC/ TUC? Abi na only to share money them Dey for? |

This is a menace in our dear country, I could recall visiting Ace footwear factory in Trans Amadi a few years back, mehn, the condition our citizens are working is beyond Terrible. This is also owned by the Chinese, Chinese employers are enslaving Nigerians in Nigeria. |

LegacyB:Oga NLC/TUC is like me and you, they can't make policy or enforce it. Obama signed executive orders prohibiting sexual descrimination by contractors, he also signed another for pay equity. Currently, Trump is focusing on strengthening its borders. Why can't a Nigerian President sign or enforce an order mandating all factories to pay minimum wage, including NSITF and Pension plan for its workers? NLC/TUC can only create that awareness, it is left for the Minister of Labour and Presidency to act upon the yearnings of the people. |

smtx:That’s where you get it wrong NLC and TUC officials were elected, Infact they campaigned for those position vigorously. I hope you have attended one of their elections before ( worse than APC versus PDP) . If they can’t handle Labour issue of Nigeria tell me why they are there ? Moreover I wish you know how active the Labour Congress version of US is that bill signed by Obama was pushed by them. Google it. |

LegacyB:Obviously you don't know the role of the Labour Union. They act as your representative and speak for you. I can bypass Labour and seek legal means if my employer breaches the contract, especially when my case is not a collective one. But, if there isn't regulation or policy how will that be possible? The NLC is registered and regulated by the Ministry of Labour. The Ministry of Labour is saddled with formulating policies and enforcement as regards employment in the country. The issue we are debating is already being addressed by Ministry of Labour's National Employment Policy and the National Policy on Occupational, Safety and Health. All that is needed is enforcement. Simple! |

LegacyB:Obama listened to the yearnings of his people not just Labour Congress, and got the glory and this remains as one of his legacies. PWe have a Ministry that gulps billions of tax payers money with all the instrument at their disposal yet they keep mute to the atrocities committed by these foreign Nationals. Labour can only agitate, pressurize while the Ministry can do more to the extent of initiating actions to shutdowns. |

You should probably read on capitalism. Same thing happens to Indians who work in their countries for home grown and foreign companies, likewise Pakistanis and Chinese. These countries are over populated and underemployed and so offer cheap unskilled labor. However, Indians and Europeans taken in such organizations are taken as experienced hire(skilled labor) and as expatriates and as such paid well. Why do you think nigerians get unskilled labor jobs in Europe? The citizens there feel the same way you do. They feel the money isn't worth it, so they don't do it. They you and me from a poor country take these roles and the only reason it's worth doing is bc when the money is sent back home to Nigeria its worth something. The work conditions are usually terrible and the monies small, but it is what it is. |

LegacyB:Labour fights for you and me when our rights at work place is abused. Also you can fight for yourself too, but of course Labour is stronger and gets result quickly. Labour collect dues to be able to run it's operations and like you said the leaders are elected and have specific tenures. |

smtx:U might be a union member, I don’t need your Labour for anything of if I were in Nigeria. You have said it Labour fights for the right of worker. And that’s what we have been saying since . But we both know NLC/ TUC are too useless to perform their duty. As far as brown envelope is not involved they are not concerned. |
