Your size should reflect in your total local outputs. You get the point now? You think you are quoting a just anyhow person? |

I have known this for some years now - NIGERIA IS NOT AS RICH AS THEY MADE US TO BELIEVE. We have the natural resources but we are not controlling our population growth. It is not about one party, President or the other. It is about the corporate mentality. The region growing Nigeria population exponentially is the North. Until we sit down and have a discussion about population, we simply will be getting poorer. The problem with having this discussion is RELIGION. Once you move for this discussion, the North will reach out for religion and it will destabilize the country quickly. NO PERSON can resolve the Nigerian problem, except all Nigerians are ready to embrace the truth. (I don't take ANY politician serious about promises to make Nigeria prosperous because I know they all know that it is a LIE!) All the economic policy of any government will grow GDP, but uncontrolled population growth will undermine it. 2 things really show you true financial strength of a nation - the budget and the GDP PER CAPITAL, as a country, both are not looking good! |

Mabuggi88:Ignorance is a very dangerous disease and you're demonstrating it very flawlessly. How can Cameroon and Liberia be considered as richer than Nigeria ! The list is GDP not national wealth. India is wealthier than most of the nations in the EU but due to its over 1B population the GDP would reflect lower. GDP can be a very deceptive an incorrect way to represent the sovereign wealth of a nation rather it can only help to understand the distribution of wealth but in itself it is not the only means to understand the socio economic circumstances of the population. |
| Re: See The 50 Poorest Countries In 2025 According To The IMF by Tom1960: 10:17am On Jul 23, 2025 |
Limitations -Why GDP per capita is not entirely fair or complete: Doesn’t measure inequality Two countries can have the same GDP per capita, but wildly different levels of income distribution. One might have a strong middle class, the other may be dominated by extreme wealth and poverty. Ignores non-market activities Unpaid work (like childcare, eldercare, home farming) and informal economies are not counted, which is a significant blind spot in developing nations. Doesn't account for cost of living A dollar in Switzerland doesn’t go as far as in India, so direct comparisons can be misleading without adjusting for purchasing power parity (PPP). Environmental degradation not considered GDP may grow while natural resources are depleted or pollution increases—this growth is not necessarily sustainable. Not a measure of well-being GDP per capita doesn’t capture happiness, education quality, healthcare access, safety, or life satisfaction. |

ProudlyLagos:So if you call ipoobident then your assertion can be valid? All these obsession with some section of a country is not just because of politics but shear bitterness. Anyway, I mentioned Cameroon and Liberia and Benin. Since you brought in APC into this, FYI Nigeria's GDP were above all these countries before the emergence of APC. You didn't even know the direction of my comment, you just want to show that you from the bitter side |

The headline of this post is misleading. GDP does not determine a poor county. OP should edit it please. GDP figure is divided by total population of a country. GDP is the ‘Gross’ value of goods and services produced, domestically in a country in a particular period. Where a country’s good and services are imported, valued a created by such importation will not be captured (recorded) in favour of the importing country but in favour of the exporting country. Countries with higher importation and higher population but with lower or average GDP tend to be on the list. It doesn’t mean to European country is poorer than Nigeria but because of low population like 9million people, such won’t feature on this type of list. We must give kudos to China for her huge population and higher GDP. So, GDP is not a good measure of poverty because: it’s always on accurate and also, population figure influences it a lot. Where there’s no accurate or up-to-date population figure, GDP figure could also be distorted. There are so many goods and services produced locally that go unrecorded in the GDP figures. Someone could have just finished molding his mud house in Ovia South Local Government of Edo State today. The value of his efforts on this house could have gone un-captured in the latest GDP figure released. Where countries A and B have same GDP of N100 Naira and country A has a population of 10 of people while country B has a population of 50 people, country A will record a GDP per capita of N10 while country B will record a GDP per capita of N2. Per capita can be referred to as per head (in a country). |

Natural and mineral resources, good and favorable climate, Good population we've got all of that but we are still among the poorest nation. The same oil reserves that we have is what made Saudi arabia, and other oil rich nations what they are today, the same favorable climate that we have is what made Malaysia what they are today, the same population that we have is what made China what they are today. The only thing we've always lack is good leadership. |

Mabuggi88:You lack understanding. The post is not about the richest. You can see India is on the list. The problem of Nigeria is our population. Our population is very large comparing with GDP. It means the larger population of Nigeria are not productive. |
