Natasha’s Show of Shame at the National Assembly It is regrettable that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was ever elected to represent any constituency in Nigeria. Her today's conduct at the National Assembly, where she arrived with a band of unruly youths, laid bare her lack of decorum and capacity for public office. Despite losing her case in court, she filed an appeal and a motion for stay, yet blatantly disregarded the judgment's binding orders. Her dramatic appearance at the Assembly, reportedly staged for a paid Arise TV coverage, was a calculated attempt to stir public sentiment rather than seek genuine redress. In her media interview, she further displayed a glaring ignorance of the law. If she truly believes in her case, why not argue it in court instead of orchestrating spectacles for television and social media? It is a sad reflection of our times that one individual seeks to undermine institutions for personal gain. Nigeria is watching. - A Concerned Nigerian Observer.

At least she didn’t scale the gates and fence into the complex like some lawmakers did during Saraki/Dogara’s tenure. |

She was lucky she was not arrested for attempting to bulldoze her way into senate chambers. Nigerian politicians are not above the law, if a Nigerian citizen does this they would be arrested, why was Natasha not arrested for using her thugs to harrass and shove security at the senate grounds, this is incitement to violence and assault. Nigerian police senators have no immunity. |

The shame is actually on the leadership of the National assemble that's insistent on towing the path of a banana Republic establishment. This case shouldn't have even happened at all |

franugo:Educating yourself does not end when you leave your last academy of study. Be it Primary School or University. The NASS has it's own in-house disciplinary rules no law Court can overule or rescind. The judgement Lie-Tasha recieved is not enforceable in law because it is advisory only and based on the Court's interpretation that her sanction was too harsh. Nonetheless, it is still the exclusive right of the NASS disciplinary Committee to reinstate her early or insist she must serve her punishment as stipulated. Lie-Tasha, a shamelessly attention-seeking and glorified female agbero, is manipulating everyone/everything from our judicial institution to even gullible folks like you. So that it is crystal clear to you the Senate can suspend Lie-Tasha regardless of what any Court thinks, see below and pay attention to the section that says "The Senate regulates its own proceedings and can suspend a senator for violating its rules or for misconduct".Also, see the section under Court Precedents, shown below, to note the Court acknowledges the supreme power of the NASS to suspend erring legislator. All that the Court can do, is insist on due process and fair hearing which has been complied with in the case of Lie-Tasha. Finally, remember that being prejudiced and having a biased mind, rather than trying to remain objective always, is the beginning of getting things horribly wrong. The courts have also acknowledged the Senate's power to suspend, but they have also emphasized the importance of due process and fair hearing.

franugo:Natasha chose only 2 out of 12 orders made by the court and start spreading fake news, Where is the apology the court ask her to make in 2 daily papers Apology on her facebook page to the National Assembly. and none she has done. Are you aware she was fined 5,000,000 Naira by the court? The court only ask the Senate to let her resume, rather the court said she would advise that the Senate look into the matter and if they they chose to call her back because of her constituent. |

Which useless info online, she was told to apologize, paste it on her Facebook page n also post it in 2 national dailes and the judge APPEALED to the senate to try and consider her if she feels remorseful but look at what she's doing. She hasn't apologize, she hasn't posted anything n now she wants to enter. Nawah ooo Many Nigerians don't read |

seanfer:100% correct. The Court's ruling was advisory. In fact, their involvement even shows how our judicial system is compromised, corrupt, for sale to the highest bidder and still in the stone age compared to others. In the UK or USA for example, it is virtually impossible for any MP or Senator to seek the involvement of the law Courts, or even for the law Courts to accept such invitation to interfere in matters beyond their purview , over the suspension of an MP or Senator for misconduct. MPs and Senators, in the UK and USA respectively, understand they must defer to the ruling of their respective disciplinary Committee. The Courts too, in those nations, know to stay out of the affair of certain arms of governance that have discretionary powers over their own affairs because of the sacrosanct principles of separation of powers. Why become an MP or Senator if you do not wish to submit yourself to disciplinary rule of the committees charged with maintaining discipline and order in those government institutions? Nigerians are prone to being emotional and lawless because they allow biased and prejudiced outlook prevent them seeing what is in the greater interest of Nigeria. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y7zqdwzqyo.amp

Wallade:No drama! She will consult her lawyers. Senate may go on recess for two months. Then, she will resume definitely. She has made her statement. No senator will be given 6 months suspension again. That senator will challenge the senate with a file of Natasha judgment. Akpabio was elected the way Natasha was elected. So no big deal, he cannot personalize the senate. However, the senate has the right to punish any senator that took the wrong turn but not later than 14 days. You cannot have 181 days , that's one calendar year of the senate and suspend a senator for 180 days, that's very wrong according to the court. Capisce? |

favour32:So says a commoner who has never been a senator or worked in the National Assembly. You can be on social media and talk trash but in the Senate, there is a law book - rules and regulations. You either comply with it, as a senator, or be punished. If need be suspended for 6 months or more, as the Senate wishes. There is already a precedence with Natasha Apoti's case. |

1: she was suspended for breaching senate rules 2: the court found that senate has a right to determine its rules 3:The court found her guilty of breaching senate rules 4: the court advised that the suspension was excessive and advised that she be recalled in the interest of her constituents The point was a she was found guilty of the offense so the senate has a right to suspend her. The court advisors but did not order her reinstatement. If she really cares about her constituents, having been found guilty she should apologize to the senate…simple! People seem to conveniently ignore that the court found her guilty of breaching senate rules and affirmed that her suspension is legal! |
