Governor Bala Mohammed To Renovate Bauchi Assembly Complex With ₦7.8billion by Maxymilliano(op): 3:44pm On Jul 23, 2025
Governor Bala Mohammed has commenced the renovation, remodelling, and upgrading of the Bauchi State House of Assembly complex for the sum of ₦7.8 billion.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bala made this known while speaking on Tuesday during the official flag-off ceremony.

The governor said, “The renovation, remodeling and upgrading of the complex we are witnessing today is a case of equal and just treatment for all the three arms of government which constitute a tripod upon which the government rests.”

He further stated, “The need for the complex to be put in proper shape and be provided with the necessary facilities, befitting its status has therefore become imperative.

“This project has been awarded at the cost of N7.8 billion for which 50 per cent of the money has already been approved and paid to the contractor and it has a 12 months completion period.”

Indeed, the mutual understanding and respect between the executive and the legislative arms of government has become responsible for the seamless delivery of the dividend of democracy during our time,” he added.

Earlier, Abubakar Suleiman, the Bauchi State House of Assembly Speaker, explained that the complex was first built and inaugurated during the first republic in the 1980s when the late Abubakar Tatari-Ali was the governor of the state.

“On behalf of all members of the Bauchi state house of assembly, management staff, and all other workers expressed our sincere gratitude to the governor for his visionary leadership and commitment to the development of not only the legislative infrastructure but the entire infrastructure in the state,” the Speaker said.

“This renovation signifies not only a physical upgrade but also a renewed dedication to transparency, efficiency and service delivery to our constituents,” Suleiman noted.

He added, “The project will modernise our facilities, enhance our working environment and enable us to better fulfil our constitutional responsibilities and service delivery to our constituents.”

He urged members, staff, and the people of Bauchi to consider the project as “a collective effort and an investment in democracy, governance and future generations.”

Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kaule, assured that his ministry would ensure quality and timely delivery of the project.

Corruption Allegations Against Family

Recently, Dr. Abubakar Ahmad, a lecturer at the Federal College of Horticulture, Gombe State, was released from Bauchi prison after spending one week, following his detention on the orders of Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor Mohammed.

His release followed a series of explosive exposés by human rights activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, detailing widespread corruption involving the governor, his family members, and cronies within the Bauchi State Government.

Ahmad had earlier been remanded for 21 days on charges bordering on alleged defamation, injurious falsehood, and criminal intimidation after he posted a video of Shamsuddeen dancing with his wife on social media.

The video reportedly angered the governor’s son, who petitioned the police, leading to Ahmad’s arrest and arraignment.

Sowore accused Governor Bala’s son, Shamsuddeen, of operating dozens of bank accounts used to launder public funds through shady companies and land allocations.

One of the reports revealed that a massive tract of government land, located north of Bauchi Central Market, was seized from poor residents and handed over to a company linked to Shamsuddeen. Another exposé implicated the governor’s wife in the illegal allocation of a sprawling two-storey building on government property.

One particularly damning revelation involved an abandoned road construction project awarded to a company allegedly linked to the governor’s family. Despite spanning from Yalwa Filling Station to the Wikki Oil Roundabout, the multi-year project remains incomplete, while funds remain unaccounted for.

Sowore’s persistent reporting, along with mounting public outrage over the governor’s alleged abuse of power, is believed to have prompted the sudden shift toward a more lenient legal approach in Ahmad’s case.

In the post, Sowore wrote, “Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed opened up to 50 bank accounts to launder money from Bauchi State on behalf of his father and CORPORATE fronts and his mother, and he wants to be oppressing our brother, Dr. Abubakar Ahmad, because he wants to use stolen funds to buy the Senatorial position in Bauchi so as to continue robbing the state."

Renovating the Bauchi Assembly Complex is a great step towards improving governance and infrastructure. However, it’s crucial that the funds are used wisely to ensure transparency and benefit the citizens. Let's hope for accountability in this one.

What are APC governors and even the president doing with their own windfalls?

Why is ebilokan borrowing more money than previous presidents despite his $84 billion subsidy savings that is choking us with hunger, poverty and starvation from high fuel & transportation costs?

The Federal Government says it has no intention to borrow from any local or foreign organisation with its removal of subsidy on petrol and exchange rate harmonisation.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, revealed this at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday in Abuja.

He said that the benefit of the subsidy removal would be ploughed back into various sectors aimed at boosting government revenue and improving the business environment for local and foreign investment.

Edun said that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.

He reiterated the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s desire to bring back the economy from the wood it has found itself over time.

How many of APC key actors are members of the deregulation and privatisation PDP capitalists that gave us 16 years of prosperity, high employment, low inflation etc?

All the good things that ebilokan used his 2011 expired northerner Buhari to change a decade ago. How could he have made his fellow southerner Jonathan a one term president in favour of a clueless northerner who showed us shege for eight years before the Lagos landlord used Yorubalokan to worsen everything further?

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

If ebilokan didn’t loot loot 20 million Lagosians when he was governor for eight years and Naira was not as worthless as he has made it in the last two years, then why is there no pipe borne water supply to all households?

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.
