Dear Business Owner
How is work and family. Hope you are making progress in this current economy. Please stop using the word CEO for your small business. One of my mentees just got rejected with his proposal to a big company. He introduced himself as CEO during the final stage of approval.

The Head of HR said how many staff do you have, he said only me. The man said then why are you calling yourself CEO when you dont even have a board of directors. He said because l am the founder and owner of the company.

He lost the business proposal and was very sad. If he had told me there was a physical interview l would have trained him on what to say but guess due to the huge millions involved he didn't want me to know details of the business proposal.

This is what l have been teaching small business owners for years now. Even using the word CEO can block you from sealing big deals. You run a one man business and calling yourself CEO.

No team.
No employee.
No board of directors
No CAC certificate
No Tax clearance
No office.
No bank acct.
No structure.
No vision.
No mission.

The only thing you have to show is just one business page on facebook, instagram, youtube, whatsapp and tiktok.

Just running business on survival mode and you call yourself the CEO. Please there are better words to use. You are self employed and calling yourself CEO. Isn't that weird. Below are some words you can use to describe yourself.

1. Operations Manager.
2. Team head.
3. Sales Manager.
4. Creative director.
5. Logistics Manager.
6. Head of Operations.
7. Senior Partner.
8. Marketing Officer.
9. Financial Director.
10. Accounting officer.
Etc

Stop using the word CEO for your small business. Focus on growing your business and building a team first. Every big thing starts small and every building began from the foundation. Keep grinding and keep building. You will excel and succeed IJN.

I know a friend whose business is worth over 500M, with about 11 employees,he still uses Head of Operations.
Can I meet the CEO, that's my Dad.

He is a wise man for not using CE0.
Every big thing starts small so he may have a bigger vision for his business.

For him may be his target is 30 to 50 employees or more. What someone see as big is small to some people and your friend.

I have an uncle who has three big eateries with over 30 workers. When l met him for mentorship he told me his target is to have 20 branches. So in his mind he is operating at a small level but people see him as very successful.

Most small business owners have blocked their business proposal approval by using the word CEO.

The earlier they know this the better for them
