nairalanda1:What if the child is already engaging in learning coding and some sewing already by the side while schooling? We should not be creating unnecessary barriers to people. I feel it's wrong and there's no point defending this abnormally. We must be careful not to breed future gangs of idle youngsters. By the way, who is going to fund the coding |

Does not make sense. I entered jss at 8, and still Nigerian government still stall my progress. Imagine a child entering at 12-13yr. Ridiculous! Useless policies. |

Is that the causes of insecurities, unemployment, lack of power supply, lack of adequate health care center. We wake up everyday and we keep on seeing government running away from the problems of the society. Why? |

I wont keep paying huge school fee for a smart kid who has completed primary school syllabus at a young age especially when the school is not competitive. |

nairalanda1:My youngest son is coding and going into formal phone and computer repairs, as that has been his fantasy, but he is 12 years old and in JSS3. You can't reduce him to a low IQ class. |
| Re: FG Fixes Age 12 As Minimum For JSS1 Admission by 2mch(m): 1:23pm On Jul 25, 2025 |
MadamExcellency:Which low IQ class? That’s his class. He’s only in JSS3 because you rushed him and probably made him do common entrance in primary 4. No de deceive yourself. Kids are to learn at a normal pace not rushed and then the parents claim genius. Some even bribe the primary school for double promotion. All those kids that were rushed, what has their genius contributed to Nigeria? At the end are they better off than their peers who attended school at the right age? I look around me and the answer is NO. They were obviously not geniuses but rushed by parents. |

The truth is most of these private schools no longer have primary 6. |

It also notes significant growth in the private education sector over the past five years: “The growth in the number of non-state schools between 2017 and 2022 (the last five years reported) has been faster than that of state schools. Non-state primary schools grew in number by 31.56 per cent between 2017 and 2022, while state schools grew in number by 3.3 per cent within the same period. At the Junior Secondary level, non-state schools grew in number by 35.06 per cent between 2017 and 2022, while state schools grew in number by 6.8 per cent only within the same period.” Responding to this last paragraph, whose flaws are these? Are the non-state schools preventing state funded schools to open new schools? The ministry should rather be grateful that these schools are there to meet the ever growing demands for education and also to create a standard and quality education...or, is this a subtle attempt to frustrate non-state schools so that the nation can be at the mercy of 'kaduna teachers?'. How many of the politicians' kids go to the state-funded schools? We should ask the minister where his children schooled and at what age they moved from stage to stage? This is an insensitive statement from the ministry of education. They should come up with a better justification for this policy. |

ogododo:Bunch of confused people everywhere. Tomorrow they will come and tell us something else, confessing after that that they were square pegs in round holes. Imagine the state of education today managed by these kinds of people. |

adedayoa2:Seems like FG need to revamp the curriculum to make it necessary to have basic 6. Some things should not be learned until Basic 6. |

Money stops nonsense Make money and bypass the rule Those making the rule will send their kids outside, set jobs at 25yrs age limit, use strike to delay us from graduating in time, making their kids eligible for the few available jobs |

NJV:if ur a teacher u will praise the government for this ...can u imagine teaching a 13 year old child in ss1 still behaving like a toddler bcus the parents decided to rush the ...subhuman through owing for sake of empty pride tht my child is in ss1 not knowing the child is yet to develop in mental and behavioral capacity......in private school come see grown up girls 13 years behaving like imbeciles who look 18 bcus they r not yet develop for the class.......this to me is a very laudable step |

2mch:Permit me to enter this discussion. Should a 17-year-old student in JSS3 be promoted to SS2 if their intellectual abilities warrant staying in JSS3 despite the age-based class structure? Why do we make students repeat classes and associate with younger peers? Shouldn't we prioritize individual development over rigid age-based policies, allowing gifted students to progress at their own pace, even if it means skipping a class or being with older students? Doesn't this approach risk stifling exceptional talents and undermining the potential of students who don't fit the traditional age-grade mold? Looks like the government is placing priority on age and not intellectual abilities. |

Always a cases of misplaced priorities. People are wrapping up uni at 16 elsewhere, but these ones want to hamper growth. By 12, I was alresdy in Jss3. So they are telling I woulda sat at home for 2.5 years. Lol All these after the other jamb mess |

This is madness, when other nations are going forward educationally Nigeria is engaging a reverse gear. So children would now finish school at the age of 24 when their mates are already leading innovations worldwide. Too bad and I expect PTA to rise against this backward policy. 16 is ok for children to enter university and not 18. |
