Frustrating Experience At Amala Joint At Shomolu by Moraklaw(op): 2:13pm On Jul 25, 2025
Today, I went to a restaurant around Shomolu, specifically at the back of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) in Shomolu, where they sell amala. I had my own bottle of water, but the owner wouldn't allow me to bring it inside because they sell water. When I explained that I might need a specific type of water, or that I had purchased water in bulk, she responded arrogantly. When she told me that I couldn't bring my water in, I asked, "Do you want me to leave?" because of the way she spoke to me, and she responded, "Yes, I want you to leave." This experience left me feeling that the restaurant was not customer-centric and that the owner was unwilling to engage politely.

It’s disappointing to encounter such behavior, especially from someone who deals with perishable goods. I will not be recommending this place to others.

It's good to be flexible sometimes...

Especially as a business person.

Someone wants to buy food and you insist on also buying water from you.

You can't be too rigid with these sort of rules as a serious business oriented person!

According to a very good source, those people selling amala, some of them uses jazz to sell, to spot them ehn they are those ones who are mostly very arrogant. Or you see people washing their plates by themselves before they could eat, Run as fast as you can. undecided

Don't misinterpret this but you can be quite sure that woman who addressed you in an insulting way is definitely a yoruba woman.

Why they behave that way very rudely especially when you approach them to buy from them shocks me.
Re: Frustrating Experience At Amala Joint At Shomolu by Nazgul: 3:48pm On Jul 25, 2025
For her to insist that you must buy her water and even asked you to leave is enough reason to conclude that she's using juju to sell.

Maybe part of the instruction is that she must not welcome anything she didn't rub the juju on or else it can spoil her business. That's why she had no problem letting you go.
Re: Frustrating Experience At Amala Joint At Shomolu by Hemanwel(m):
Sometime ago, we saw a video of a woman (a restaurant owner) weeing inside a pot of soup somewhere in Cameroon, obviously so as to make more sales. I want to believe that is what this woman has probably done too. Because if this the way she has been treating her customers, she won't be having sales. She knows the secret behind her massive sales; hence, she will treat you, her customers, arrogantly and anyhow

It's like you are new in Lagos. Lol

If you can find a serious amala joint that is not operated by very arrogant and wicked people I will give you 5K after you drop the address for me to check out

All of them are that way except the sellers that are still struggling for customers

All I have to do is to have a hearty smile.

What respect are you talking about? That I cannot walk into a restaurant with a bottle of water at hand?

What standard is that for a bottle of water?

So of if I was coming from my office and had a bottle water on my table, I am not allowed to go eat or walk into some places? I have to buy another one?

We talking about a bottle of water here and not beer or liquor

Give us more than this. Like "I have been to that woman's shop and used my own bottled water" with your own picture evidence.

Thats her business policy and we shoùld respect that. I once ́lodged in an hotel that did not allow bringing in bottlled water from the outside.

We don't like following rules.
