Are These Questions Appropriate For A 5 Year Old? by Dogalmighty17(op): 1:48pm On Jul 25, 2025
The questions below are what my son a five year old in nursery two got asked in his exams. I don't think such is appropriate for that age.

This is what happens when missionary schools employ people without a sound background in education.

How are you asking a child in nursery two to list hospital tools for you? Or to mention types of religion? Nursery two! This is absurd.

I have long had reservations regarding the quality and standard of this particular school in question. The school has no culture of excellence and is staffed by absolute mediocres. Needless to say, my son will not continue in that school again.

The pupils must have been taught in class before the exam. Why would the teacher ask if she had not taught them.

'Mention two types of religion'... I'm so sure they would have failed your child if he mentioned Polytheism and Jainism

There is no big deal about these questions.

I wonder how some of you think because it was taught in class means it's a must that a 5 year old will remember?

Re: Are These Questions Appropriate For A 5 Year Old? by NoToPile: 9:33pm On Jul 25, 2025
They do oral , the teacher writes it

I have seen questions like this in rhymes is it pre-nursery class or so

Sing twinkle twinkle....... And the child sings it and I was like seriously they printed exam paper for a 'baby"

What I just see there is they just have to print exam questions because of we Nigerian parents who always want to dictate to school owners.

Now as for the OP if you don't feel okay with their style you can always change the school.

Polytheism is not a religion. Not good to know you have issues passing a Nursery 2 examination. grin

Why won't a 5 year old remember what they're taught in class?
Have you not seen 5 year olds singing songs? How did they remember the lyrics?

You should probably do a little research before throwing punches.
Polytheism is classified as a religion.
Religions such as Hinduism, Shintoism and the traditional African religion fall under polytheism.

As a teacher, I put it to you that these concepts have been taught and possibly backed up with excursions and audio-visual presentation (depending on the school's resources).

Polytheism is not a religion...

It is the belief or worship of multiple gods.

Monotheism is the belief and worship of only one god- Christians and Muslims are monotheists because they believe in worshipping only one god.

The religions you mentioned fall under polytheism because believe in more than one god or goddesses... Hinduism for instance has a pantheon of gods they worship - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

African traditional religion has Sango,Ahmadioha, Ogun etc. Each unique and identified with a particular attribute.

Long Story short polytheism isn't a religion on its own.

So polytheism is a classification of religion just like monotheism!

It's okay for a five year old. Most of these definitions are memorized daily like rhymes. It's unfortunate that your child couldn't remember to say it at that particular point in time. You will be shocked that if you ask your child some of those questions he failed,he may tell you the answers.

The belief in, and worship of a god/multiple gods defines religion.

I mentioned examples of polytheistic religions.
Maybe you should prove me wrong with citations and not just typing "polytheism is not a religion".

There's nothing wrong with learning something you don't know.

If you continue this way...

You will never learn anything new Sha. Apart from polytheism there are;

Monotheism: Belief in one all-powerful God, like in Christianity, Islam, or Judaism.

Pantheism: Belief that God or the divine is identical with the universe or nature.

Henotheism: Belief in one supreme God, while acknowledging the existence of other gods or deities.

Atheism: Lack of belief in any gods or deities.

Animism: Belief that non-human entities, like animals or objects, possess spiritual or supernatural qualities.

These are classification of religions and not religions in themselves!

This looks fake Nursery 2 Exams are mainly objective questions and the hand writing on that script is not for a 5 year old

It is not fake. What actually happens is that the teacher read out the question for the child and the child will reply the answer orally and then the teacher writes it down for him or her.

I have seen toddlers mentioning the name of flags of very obscure countries, there is nothing outrageous about these questions.

So, nobody is going to talk about the grammatical blunders in the questions?

Take your child out of that school.

The teacher asks the question, the pupil answer verbally and the teacher writes the answer down in the question paper. That's how exams are done at their level. By next session, they'll start writing down their answers

But five years old knows how to open phones and check videos online
They also know how to dance latest dance steps and lyrics of songs

You really underestimate the brain of a 5 years old
