Amotolongbo:Nice analysis, exactly wat I will do if I found myself in such a situation. Giving B is out of it because the defender can outrun him and intercept the ball, except the player in position B is fast like Mbappe, prime Messi, Prime Ronaldo, El phenomenon, Dembele, Alphonse Davies etc. |

The pass is for C, a treaded through pass then that opens options for B, and even A to get in position for an easy tap-in. If u want a higher Xg from that move, then the pass is to C. |

Amotolongbo:C is the best, it will confuse all the defence |

I will rather pass to A for us to build up and gradually penetrate. B & C are as good as marked and might not be that easy for them to move ahead. |

It's risky to pass the ball to B because an outstretched leg by the defender might intercept it, if the referee is on colos he can also run into the ball so I won't take that risk. The best option is to release C, before the defenders would realize what's happening he's already in the box. He'll pass the ball to B who's been running with him to bury it in the back of the net. But if C wanna be selfish after making that electrifying run and he's confident of himself he can also score with a banana shot when he's close to the box because the goalkeeper would definitely pull out. |

Pass to B but through the arrow that shows C. Note, the B player must have pace to reach the ball |

Pass to C will be successful, only if C is a fast runner Pass to B, will be successful, if B is a Didier Drogba, or the great Ronaldo of Brazil. |

Give it to A and A Give it back to you and then C. |

Only give a long through pass to C if he has the speed of Ikedia. If he is not fast, the 2 defenders will close him down. Best option is to pass to B, and if he has brains, he should do a 1 - 2 with C and he will be 1-on-1 with the goal keeper. |

Rhema04:You are not a good tactician because that move guarantees just one scoring opportunity but if you pass it to C, you have 3 good opportunities to score. Go direct, square it or make a pull back pass. |
| Re: As A Footballer Who Are You Passing This Too? by GeneralOuki: 3:07am On Jul 26, 2025 |
Amotolongbo:All options are good, it just depends on how you want to progress the ball. Either go to B which will be a more pragmatic approach or B to put pressure on the defence, and depending on how good his hold up play is he can bring both the winger and midfield into play, or you go wide to C, the best option who will drive the ball forward square it into the box. A is good if you want to protect the lead and keep possession, B is good if you want to break press and C is just attack. |

Depends on the quality of player B and C. Whoever is faster, more lethal and clinical between both of them will get the pass. Imagine if B is Hôjlund and C is Salah you bet your ass right I'll pass to C. But if B is Nunez, A is Maguire and C is Anthony then I'll turn and pass the ball to the goal keeper. ![]() |

Funflipper:And you based this on? Imagine C is Grealish, Anthony or sterling. Will you still pass to them to "square play"? |

I will pass it to C if he knows how to do the needful. |

As it is a counter attacking, passing to either B or C is okay, it all depend on how well you trust their ability! |

While it may seem like giving B the ball through a pass puts him one-on-one with the goalkeeper, that assumes perfect timing, acceleration, and no defensive pressure — which isn’t always guaranteed. 1. Distance to Goal & Defender Pressure Player B is marked and positioned closer to the right-back defender. According to FIFA’s 2022 player tracking data, average sprint speed for defenders is 32 km/h, while attackers average 33–35 km/h. The margin is small, so a through pass to B risks a 50-50 sprint race, especially if the defender anticipates it early. 2. Offside Risk B is near the defensive line. Any slightly mistimed pass will result in an offside. Statistically, offside traps are successful 63% of the time when executed near the halfway line (Opta, 2021). If the pass is slightly delayed, B may be caught offside or lose momentum adjusting to stay onside. 3. C’s Advantage: Facing the Play C is behind the defenders, facing forward, and can run onto the ball in stride. Studies show that players making diagonal runs behind the line score in 17% more 1v1 situations than those receiving straight-line through balls (UEFA Tactical Study, 2020). Since C has a better angle, he can also square the ball to B if needed — giving a 2v1 scenario against the goalkeeper. 4. Passing Angle The passing angle to C is clearer with less risk of interception. In high-level matches, passes through central defenders (like to B) have a 32% chance of interception, while passes to wide or trailing attackers (like C) are intercepted only 19% of the time (StatsBomb, 2023). Passing to C might delay the shot slightly, but it gives: - More control - Higher pass success rate -Option to pass to B again - Less risk of offside or interception Passing to B depends too much on speed and precision timing, making it a riskier choice in practice — especially if the defenders read the play well. helinues: |

brain54:I no sure say you play ball if not you no go talk so. Why can’t the ball ⚽️ be passed to C? It’s a simple through pass which would be square played to be in the easiest of ways to finish. Looks like you’ve been supporting Manchester United all along 🤣 |
| Re: As A Footballer Who Are You Passing This Too? by stagger: 11:39am On Jul 26, 2025 |
First you need to create a decoy, and at the same time make a chance for the best possible option on goal. The pass has to go to A. This creates two things: a) A decoy that will cause the two centre backs to slow down because they will be distracted by that option. b) It create a straight through opportunity for advancing defensive midfielder A to lay a straight pass to attacker B, who will now be in a great position to outrun the two covering centre backs and be through on goal. |
| Re: As A Footballer Who Are You Passing This Too? by stagger: 11:43am On Jul 26, 2025 |
Stanbaba30:C is not through on goal. He has to get to a position to square it, and that is assuming he can get by the left full back. By that time, the B attacker would have been covered by the centre back on top of the screen. There are no supporting options for the B attacker. This is not an option that can lead to a goal. The best is pass to A who will then pass to B -> through on goal. |

Depends on the quality of the team As a CB I will have to return the ball to my closer team mate that’s A But when the player with the ball is DCM or ACM with a good passing quality like that of TONI KROS, MODRIC, POGBA, ENZO OR EVEN PALMER a swift through pass to B is a Top notch goal if the spotter is a clinical striker. |
| Re: As A Footballer Who Are You Passing This Too? by jaszplus12(m): 1:51pm On Jul 26, 2025 |
As a former midfield maestro myself, my choice is C...wing play, drawing attention from B for a moment, knowing C will surely drive a low cross to B at the appropriate time |
| Re: As A Footballer Who Are You Passing This Too? by Funflipper: 2:35pm On Jul 26, 2025 |
DJInfluence:C has to be a player like Mo Sallah or Lamine Yamal. |
| Re: As A Footballer Who Are You Passing This Too? by Marc3500: 2:46pm On Jul 26, 2025 |
The risky option is B why because of the refs and the 2 defenders but it's the fastest way to get a goal if the striker is lethal but to be on the safe side pass to C |
